Abstract

Berdasarkan hasil studi pendahuluan di SMP BSS untuk siswa kelas Seventh E, itu menunjukkan bahwa siswa memiliki masalah dalam tata bahasa dan kosa kata secara tertulis. Oleh karena itu, peneliti menggunakan Instagram dalam `menggambarkan orang-orang untuk meningkatkan prestasi siswa dalam penulisan teks deskriptif. Dalam penelitian ini, peneliti menerapkan penelitian tindakan kelas sebagai desain penelitian. Ada empat langkah: perencanaan, akting, observasi, dan refleksi. Subjek penelitian adalah 20 siswa kelas tujuh SMP BSS. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah panduan wawancara untuk guru, lembar observasi, tes (pre-test dan post-test), daftar periksa observasi, catatan lapangan, dan kuesioner. Dalam mengimplementasikan penelitian ini, peneliti itu dibantu oleh guru bahasa Inggris kelas tujuh E dan seorang kolega yang menjadi pengamat. Kriteria kesuksesan adalah 75% dari siswa kelas tujuh diperkirakan akan mencapai 75 (nilai kelulusan minimum) atau lebih dari 75. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dalam siklus, ada 13-16 siswa yang secara aktif berpartisipasi dalam beberapa pertemuan. Ada juga 17-20 siswa yang berpartisipasi aktif dalam beberapa pertemuan. Setelah menerapkan penggunaan Instagram, ada 15 siswa dari 20 siswa (75%) yang bisa mencapai 75 sebagai nilai kelulusan minimum dan lebih dari 75, sedangkan dalam pre-test, 3 siswa dari 20 siswa (15%) dapat mencapai 75 sebagai nilai kelulusan minimum. Pasca kuesioner menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar siswa suka menggunakan Instagram sebagai tempat mereka untuk menggambarkan orang-orang di sekitar. Itu juga cara yang efektif dan menarik untuk menggambarkan orang-orang di sekitar. Para siswa merasa bahwa masalah mereka diperbaiki dengan menggunakan Instagram. Selain itu, komentar teman sekelasnya dapat membantu mereka untuk memperbaiki teks deskriptif tulisan mereka. Sebagian besar siswa juga sepakat bahwa penggunaan Instagram dapat membuat mereka ingin lebih banyak menulis dalam tata bahasa yang benar dan dalam pilihan kata yang baik (kosakata). Oleh karena itu, sebagian besar siswa sepakat bahwa sekarang mereka merasa lebih baik dalam menggambarkan orang-orang di sekitar (teks deskriptif) dalam bentuk tertulis. Berdasarkan temuan penelitian, guru bahasa Inggris disarankan untuk menggunakan Instagram untuk meningkatkan penulisan teks deskriptif siswa dan partisipasi aktif dalam menulis pengajaran. Selain itu, para peneliti masa depan disarankan untuk mengimplementasikan teknik ini dalam mengajarkan jenis teks penulisan lainnya.

English Abstract

Based on the result of preliminary study at SMP BSS for the students of seventh E class, it showed that the students had problem in grammar and vocabulary in writing. Therefore, the researcher used Instagram in ‘describing people around to improve students’ achievement in descriptive text writing. In this study, the researcher applied classroom action research as the research design. There are four steps: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The subjects of the study were 20 students of the seventh E graders of SMP BSS. The research instruments used in this study were interview guide for the teacher, observation sheet, tests (pre-test and post-test), observation checklist, field notes, and questionnaire. In implementing this research, the researcher was helped by the English teacher of seventh E graders and a colleague who became the observers. The criteria of success is 75% of the seventh E graders were expected to reach 75 (minimum passing grade) or more than 75. The research findings showed that in cycle, there were 13-16 students who actively participated in some meetings. There were also 17-20 students who actively participated in some meetings. After implementing the use of Instagram, there were 15 students out of 20 students (75%) who could reach 75 as minimum passing grade and more than 75, while in pre-test, 3 students out of 20 students (15%) could reach 75 as the minimum passing grade. The post-questionnaire showed that most of students like using Instagram as their place to describe people around. It was also effective and interesting way to describe people around. The students feel that their problems are fixed by the use of Instagram. In addition, their classmates’ comment could help them to fix their writing descriptive text. Most of students also agreed that the use of Instagram can make them want more to write in correct grammar and in good word choices (vocabulary). Therefore, most of students agreed that now they feel better in describing people around (descriptive text) in written form. Based on the findings of the research, the English teacher is suggested to use Instagram to increase students’ writing descriptive text and active participation in teaching writing. Besides, future researchers are suggested to implement this technique in teaching other types of writing text.
