Abstract
Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah peneliti ingin mengetahui bagaimana guru memperlakukan siswa dengan menggunakan strategi tertentu mengenai masalah bacaan mereka dan apa pertimbangan guru untuk memilih strategi-strategi dalam mengajar pemahaman membaca untuk siswa SMP Assalam Batu di SMP Assalam Batu . Dalam penelitian ini, peneliti menggunakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif yang terdiri dari beberapa data dalam bentuk kata, frasa dan kalimat. Dalam melakukan penelitian, peneliti mengumpulkan data melalui wawancara dengan guru bahasa Inggris, mengamati proses belajar mengajar kelas dan membuat catatan lapangan. Pengamatan dilakukan dalam tiga pertemuan. Subjek penelitian ini adalah guru bahasa Inggris di SMP Assalam Batu. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa strategi guru dalam mengajar pemahaman membaca adalah strategi berpikir-keras, strategi hubungan jawaban, dan strategi penerjemahan. Selain itu, guru menggunakan strategi berpikir untuk membantu siswa untuk memahami teks dengan mudah. Selain itu, guru menggunakan strategi QARS untuk membangun pengetahuan siswa, untuk mengetahui pemahaman siswa terhadap materi, dan membuat siswa menjadi lebih aktif. Yang terakhir, guru menggunakan strategi penerjemahan untuk membantu siswa untuk memahami kata-kata yang tidak dikenal yang disampaikan oleh guru.
English Abstract
The purpose of this research are the researcher wants to find out how the teacher treats the students by using particular strategies regarding with their reading problem and what are the teacher’s consideration to choose those strategies in teaching reading comprehension for the ninth year students at SMP ASSALAM BATU. In this research, the researcher used descriptive qualitative research consisting of some data in the form of words, phrases and sentences. In conducting the research, the researcher collected data through interviewing with the English teacher, observing teaching and learning process the class and making field notes. The observation was done in three meeting. The subject of this research was the English teacher at SMP ASSALAM BATU. The result showed that the teacher’s strategies in teaching reading comprehension are think-aloud strategy, question answer relationship strategy, and translating strategy. Moreover, the teacher used think-aloud strategy to help the students to understand the text easily. In addition, the teacher used QARs strategies to build students’ knowledge, to know students understanding toward the material, and to make the students become more active. The last, the teacher used translating strategy to help the students to understand unfamiliar words which were delivered by the teacher.
