Abstract
Penelitian ini berusaha menjelaskan fenomena perjudian dibalik salah satu tradisi di Madura yakni perjudian karapan sapi. Perjudian ini terjadi disebabkan karena praktik perjudian sapi kerap ini dilakukan secara tersembunyi, kemudian aparat keamanan yang dianggap minim serta para pelaku perjudian yang memiliki kecanduan dalam melakukan permainan judi.Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah Mendeskripsikan dan menganalisis modal dalam praktik sosial pelaku perjudian yang dilakukan oleh pelaku perjudian karapan sapi. Penelitian ini menggunakan konsep modal dan arena yang di dalamnya terdapat konsep strategi dari teori Logic of Practice Pierre Bourdiue. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kasus. Teknik pemilihan informan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Adapun metode pengumpulan datanya mulai dari observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Hasil dari penelitian didapatkan bahwa pelaku dalam praktik perjudian karapan sapi memanfatkan adanya modal sosial yang dimiliki. Strategi yang digunakan ialah pemanfaatan modal ekonomi dan modal sosial yang pada akhrinya terjadinya rekonversi di antara modal tersebut yang terjadi terhadap kelompok bawah. Pelaku merasa aman dengan adanya kedekatan terhadap aparat keamanan dengan didasarkan adanya uang kemanan sehingga para pelaku perjudian tetap berjalan dibalik adanya peraturan. Tapi keadaan tersebut membuat para pelaku perjudian dapat menerima hal tersebut supaya praktik perjudian tetap berjalan. Dengan adanya pembagian kalangan jumlah taruhan serta modal yang dimiliki berbeda dapat dibentuk sesuai dengan kesepakatan bersama.
English Abstract
This research is trying to explain the phenomenon of gambling in one of the tradition in Madura that is gambling bull race. This gambling is the case due to the practice of gambling’s is often done on a hidden, then the security forces are considered to be minimal as well as the gambling that has addicted to gambling games. The purpose of this research is describe and analyze the capital in social practices of gamblers perpetrated by who’s gambling bull race. This research uses the concept of capital and arena which has a concept of strategy from Pierre Bourdieu’s theory, The Logic of Practice. The method that used in this research is qualitative method with case study approach. The technique of selecting informants using purposive sampling technique. The method of collecting data consist of observation, interview, and documentation. As a results of the research found that the actors in the practice of gambling bull race to take advantage of the social capital. The strategy used is the utilization of economic and social capital which is ultimately the reconvertion of the capital that occur on the bottom group. Actors feel secure with the proximity to the actors and security apparatus based on the existence of security money so that the actors of gambling is still played behind the rules. But the circumstances make gamblers do so in order to keep the gambling practice going. Given the division of the number of bets as well as different capital owned can be formed in accordance with mutual agreement.
