Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh permasalahan banyaknya populasi tunawisma di Kota Malang, yang tetap ada bahkan bertambah dari tahun ke tahun. Tunawisma yang tersebar di Kota Malang belum dapat ditanggulangi oleh pemerintah dan belum dapat diterima oleh masyarakat sebagai pribadi yang normal. Sehinggga, tunawisma tersingkir dari kehidupan sosial dan berdampak pada keberlangsungan kehidupannya. Fenomena ini terjadi dikarenakan stigma yang diberikan masyarakat pada tunawisma. Stigmatisasi berlaku ketika masyarakat umum sebagai The Normals memberikan pandangan (Virtual Social Identity) yang tidak sesuai dengan kenyataan (Actual Social Identity) pada tunawisma. Untuk itu sebagai alat analisis digunakan teori Stigma oleh Erving Goffman serta penggunaan metode penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kasus. Dalam penelitian ini didapatkan delapan informan yang terdiri dari empat orang tunawisma dan empat orang masyarakat umum. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa masyarakat telah memberikan stigma pada tunawisma. Pemberian stigma didasarkan pada atribut yang melekat pada tunawisma, serta didukung dengan adanya perbedaan antara actual social identity dengan virtual social identity. Perbedaan pandangan dengan kenyataan yang sangat mencolok adalah perbedaan anggapan asal-usul, pekerjaan, kegiatan sehari-hari, kepribadian, dan penampilan. Masyarakat mengucilkan kelompok tunawisma sehingga tunawisma tidak dapat lagi bergabung dengan masyarakat umum sebagai suatu kelompok masyarakat yang utuh. Dampak yang terjadi dari adanya stigma adalah sulitnya tunawisma untuk memperbaiki atau meningkatkan kesejahteraan hidupnya secara sosial maupun ekonomi.

English Abstract

This research is motivated by the problem of the number of homeless population in Malang, which still exist even increase from year to year. Homelessness scattered in the city of Malang can not be overcome by the government and can not be accepted by the public as a normal person. As a result, homeless people are excluded from social life and affect the survival of their lives. This phenomenon occurs due to the stigma that people give to the homeless. Stigmatization applies when the general public as The Normals provides a view (Actual Social Identity) that is not in accordance with the reality (Actual Social Identity) on the homeless. For that as an analytical tool used Stigma theory by Erving Goffman and the use of qualitative research methods with case study approach. In this research got eight informants consisting of four people homeless and four people of general public. The results show that the community has given stigma to the homeless. Stigma is based on attributes attached to homelessness, and supported by the difference between actual social identity with virtual social identity. Differences in views with reality that is very striking is the difference of assumption of origin, work, daily activities, personality, and appearance. The community isolates the homeless group so that the homeless can no longer join the general public as a whole community. The impact of stigma is the difficulty of the homeless to improve or improve the welfare of his life both socially and economically.
