Abstract

Modulator Optik berfungsi untuk menumpangkan sinyal-sinyal informasi berupa pulsapulsa cahaya ke dalam sinyal pembawa (carrier) agar dapat ditransmisikan. Secara umum, terdapat empat jenis eksternal modulator yaitu electro-optics, acousto optics, dan electroabsoprtion. Modulator yang kini sering digunakan adalah Mach-Zehnder Modulator (MZM) dan Electro-absoption Modulator (EAM). Pada penelitian ini dilakukan analisis terhadap performa sistem dari eksternal modulator Mach-Zehnder Modulator (MZM) dan Electroabsoption Modulator (EAM) dengan variasi bit rate 10 Gbps dan 40 Gbps, line coding Non Return to Zero (NRZ) dan Return to Zero (RZ). Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan simulasi software optisystem 7.0. Sinyal informasi di bangkitkan dengan menggunakan PseudoRandom Bit Sequence lalu sinyal tersebut diubah menjadi sinyal digital menggunakan line coding, sinyal carrier dengan panjang gelombang 1550,12 nm dan 1558,98 nm dihasilkan dari CW Laser lalu proses modulasi dilakukan pada eksternal modulator. Sinyal termodulasi tersebut akan di transmisikan melalui single mode fiber sepanjang 10 km – 100 km dengan menggunakan variasi bit rate 10 Gbps sedangkan 1 km- 10 km dengan menggunakan variasi bit rate 40 Gbps, lalu akan diterima pada photodetector APD. Analisis performa modulator optik pada sistem komunikasi optik menggunakan parameter dari nilai BER, Q-Factor, dan loss. Setelah melakukan simulasi didapatkan bahwa semakin jauh jarak transmisi makan nilai BER akan semakin besar, nilai Q-factor berbanding terbalik dengan nilai BER dimana, semakin jauh jarak transmisi maka nilai QFactor akan semakin kecil. Loss yang terjadi pada jarak transmisi yang jauh akan besar. Hasil simulasi performa sistem komunikasi optik terbaik yaitu menggunakan Electroabsorption modulator (EAM) dengan panjang gelombang 1550,12 nm, bit rate 10 Gbs dan menggunakan line coding RZ didapatkan nilai BER 1,18 x 10-45, Q-Factor sebesar 14,1270, dan loss sebesar 0,2 dB pada jarak 10 km.

English Abstract

Optical Modulator serves to lay off the information signals of light pulses into the carrier signal (carrier) in order to be transmitted. In general, there are four types of external modulators namely electro-optics, acousto optics, and electro-absoprtion. Current modules are Mach-Zehnder Modulator (MZM) and Electro-absoption Modulator (EAM).In this research, an analysis of system performance from external modulator Mach-Zehnder Modulator (MZM) and Electro-absoption Modulator (EAM) with variation of 10 Gbps and 40 Gbps bit rate, Non Return to Zero (NRZ) and Return to Zero RZ). This research was conducted with optical system 7.0 simulation. The information signal is generated by using Pseudo-Random Bit Sequence then the signal is converted into digital signal using line coding, carrier signal with wavelength 1550,12 nm and 1558,98 nm is produced from CW Laser then modulation is done on external modulator. The modulated signal will be transmitted through single mode fiber along 10 km - 100 km by using 10 Gbps bit rate variation while 1 km - 10 km using variation bit rate 40 Gbps, then will be received on photodetector APD. Analysis of optical modulator performance on optical communication system using parameters of BER, Q-Factor, and loss. After doing the simulation it is found that the longer the transmission distance to eat the value of BER will be greater, the value of Q-factor inversely proportional to the value of BER where, the further the transmission distance, the Q-Factor value will be smaller. Loss that occur at a large transmission distance will be large. The best performance of optical communication system simulation is using Electroabsorption modulator (EAM) with wavelength 1550,12 nm, 10 Gbs bit rate and using RZ line coding obtained BER value of 1.18 x 10-45, Q-Factor of 14, 1270, and the loss of 0,2 dB at a distance of 10 km.
