Abstract

Kebutuhan medis dalam hal implantasi tulang cenderung mengalami peningkatan. Fenomena meningkatnya kasus patah tulang ini dikarenakan semakin tingginya angka kecelakaan dan bencana alam di Indonesia. Maka dari itu, perlu ada pengembangan teknologi dan inovasi baru dalam biomedical engineering sehingga menghasilkan produk yang mudah didapat, lebih murah dan terjangkau oleh masyarakat tanpa harus melakukan impor bahan implan tulang. Material yang cukup populer dan banyak digunakan untuk material implan adalah stainless steel 316L. Material tersebut banyak digunakan karena memiliki kekuatan tinggi, keuletan yang baik, dan biokompatibel. Pada bidang manufaktur terdapat berbagai macam proses pengerjaan salah satunya adalah Electropolishing. Electropolishing merupakan proses yang melibatkan suatu perpindahan massa antara dua elektroda (anoda dan katoda) dalam suatu cairan elektrolit dan berfungsi sebagai proses surface finishing secara electrochemical untuk mencapai kekasaran permukaan rendah yang sesuai dengan kebutuhan impaln tulang. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisa pengaruh pada facing dengan feed rate 25, 50 dan 75 mm/menit dan kadar larutan 96%, 99% H2SO4, dan 85% H3PO4 terhadap kekasaran pada stainless steel 316L. Proses tersebut kemudian diuji nilai kekasaran dan hasil dari penelitian tersebut menunjukkan bahwa dengan diberikannya variasi feed rate yang semakin tinggi maka kekasaran permukaan akan meningkat seiring dengan bertambahnya persentase kadar larutan.

English Abstract

The medical needs in terms of bone implantation tend to increase. The phenomenon of increasing cases of fractures is due to the increasing number of accidents and natural disasters in Indonesia. Therefore, the technology and innovation related to the biomedical engineering need to be develop so that it can produce products that are easy to get, cheaper and affordable by the people without having to import bone implant materials. The material that is quite popular and widely used for implantation is 316L stainless steel. The material is widely used because it has high strength, good ductility, and biocompatible. In the field of manufacturing, there are various kinds of workmanship, one of them is Electroplishing. Electropolishing is a process involving mass transfer between two electrodes (anode and cathode) in electrolyte fluid and serves as an electrochemical surface finishing process to achieve low surface roughness which correspond to the bone implantation need. This study aims at analyzing the effect on facing with feed rate 25, 50 and 75 mm/ minute and 96%, 99% H2SO4, and 85% H3PO4 solution to 316L stainless steel roughness. The process, further is tested for the roughness value and the result of the study indicates that by giving higher feed rate, the surface roughness will increase along with the increase of solution consentration percentage.
