Abstract

Karies gigi merupakan proses patologis kerusakan gigi yang progresif yang disebabkan oleh kombinasi dari faktor diet, host, mikroflora dan waktu. Karies diawali dengan hilangnya ion-ion mineral didalam gigi, terutama kalsium. Hilangnya kalsium dalam gigi dapat menyebabkan penurunan kekerasan enamel gigi dan bertambahnya kekasaran enamel gigi. Proses tersebut dapat dicegah apabila ion-ion mineral yang hilang dapat dikembalikan. Tulang sapi mengandung kalsium yang sangat tinggi. Kandungan kalsium yang tinggi dapat menjadi penyedia ion kalsium bagi enamel gigi yang mengalami proses demineralisasi. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dengan rancang bangun pre test-post test with control group design secara in vitro. Sampel yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah gigi premolar permanen pertama rahang bawah yang di indikasikan pencabutan dengan alasan perawatan orthodonsia. Pada penelitian ini terdapat 4 kelompok perlakuan, pada masing masing kelompok akan direndam pada larutan pH-cycling, lalu kelompok kontrol akan dilanjutkan perendaman dengan larutan akuades selama 14 hari, sedangkan kelompok 1, 2 dan 3 akan direndam dengan larutan kalsium dengan dosis 1 mM, 3 mM dan 5 mM. Kesimpulan pada penelitian ini adalah kalsium dari tulang sapi dapat meningkatkan kekerasan enamel gigi dan dapat menurunkan kekasaran enamel gigi yang mengalami demineralisasi, kelompok gigi yang direndam dengan larutan remineralisasi dengan dosis 1 mM – 3 mM lebih optimal dibandingkan dengan kelompok gigi yang direndam dengan dosis 5 mM.

English Abstract

Dental caries is a pathological process of a progressive tooth decay that caused by the combination of factors such as diet, host, microflora, and time. Dental caries are begins with the loss of teeth's mineral ions. One of the important mineral ions that lose is calcium. The loss of calcium can decrease the tooth enamel hardness and increase the surface roughness of the tooth enamel. This process can be prevented if the vanished mineral ions are recovered. Cow’s bones contain high level of calcium. The high level of calcium contained in it can provide the calcium ion for the tooth enamel that suffer the demineralization process. This research is conducted by using the pre test-post test design with control group design and applying in vitro study. The samples used in this research are the first permanent premolar tooth in the lower jaw that indicated with an extraction because of orthodontics care. There are four treatment groups in this research. Each groups will be soaked in pH-cycling solution, while the control group will be soaked in distilled water for 14 days. The 1, 2, and 3 groups will be soaked in the calcium solutions with the 1 mM, 3 mM and 5 mM doses. The conclusion of this research is that the calcium from cow’s bones will increase the tooth enamel hardness and will decrease the demineralized tooth enamel surface roughness. The teeth groups that soaked in the remineralization solution with the doses of 1 mM – 3 mM are better than the groups that soaked in the 5 mM dose.
