Abstract
Istilah masyarakat berasal dari bahasa Latin, socius. Istilahnya secara langsung berarti hubungan, kebersamaan, atau hanya kehidupan kelompok. Konsep masyarakat mengacu pada kelompok atau kolektivitas yang relatif besar dari orang-orang yang memiliki budaya yang kurang lebih sama dan berbeda, menempati wilayah geografis tertentu, dengan perasaan identitas atau kepemilikan, memiliki semua pengaturan sosial atau insinuasi yang diperlukan untuk mempertahankan dirinya sendiri. Masyarakat sebagaimana didefinisikan oleh Calhoun dkk (1994) adalah kelompok otonom dari orang-orang yang tinggal di wilayah yang sama, memiliki budaya yang sama (seperangkat nilai, kepercayaan, kebiasaan dan sebagainya) dan saling terkait satu sama lain melalui interaksi sosial rutin dan status dan peran yang saling bergantung. Di masyarakat, ada stratifikasi sosial, yang disebut-sebut sebagai salah satu fenomena sosial. Stratifikasi sosial mengakibatkan konflik sosial antar anggota. Anggotanya mungkin cenderung pada strata atau kelas yang lebih tinggi, sehingga masyarakat akan mengenalnya dengan reputasi yang lebih baik. Stratifikasi kelas itu sendiri membuat perbedaan faktor ekonomi itu sendiri membuat sebuah ambisi satu kelas untuk membuat mereka setinggi kelas yang memiliki reputasi di masyarakat dan membuat anggota cenderung memiliki konflik sosial. Oleh karena itu, penulis bermaksud untuk menganalisis bagaimana karakter Lina Broud yang mencapai kelas yang lebih tinggi memiliki anggota untuk memiliki identitas dan reputasi yang lebih tinggi. Mobilitas sosial adalah istilah yang mengacu pada kemampuan seseorang untuk mengubah strata sosialnya dengan bergerak naik atau turun tangga diferensiasi segementarynya. Dalam sosiologi, mobilitas sosial menjelaskan perubahan status sosial. Kemampuan seseorang untuk mencapai status sosial yang lebih tinggi dapat bergantung pada faktor-faktor seperti hubungan sosial, kekayaan, usaha, dan pendidikan. Mobilitas sosial dan faktor-faktor akan dianalisis dari novel. Oleh karena itu, memilih novel, pengumpulan, analisis, interpretasi dan temuan Luxe adalah metode urutan yang diterapkan untuk mengungkapkan perjuangan Lina Broud untuk mencapai status kelas sosial yang lebih tinggi dari novel ini. Kesimpulannya dalam novel Luxe, Lina Braud adalah pembantu yang jelas berasal dari status kelas rendah. Braud sedang bermimpi untuk memiliki kehidupan serupa seperti sosialita lain yang dia tahu seperti Elizabeth Holland dan Penelope Hayes. Lina Braud berjuang untuk berada di kelas sosial yang lebih tinggi yang membuatnya menjadi pemanjat sosial. Dengan cara yang sama, mobilitas sosial oleh Lina Broud dalam novel tersebut juga mewakili mimpi Amerika sebagai pemicu di masyarakat Amerika untuk mengejar kebahagiaan mereka.
English Abstract
The term society is derived from a Latin word, socius. The term directly means association, togetherness, or simply group life. The concept of society refers to a relatively large grouping or collectivity of people who share more or less common and distinct culture, occupying a certain geographical locality, with the feeling of identity or belongingness, having all the necessary social arrangements or insinuations to sustain itself. Society as defined by Calhoun et al (1994) is an autonomous grouping of people who inhabit a common territory, have a common culture (shared set of values, beliefs, customs and so forth) and are linked to one another through routinized social interactions and interdependent statuses and roles. In the society, there is a social stratification, which is mentioned as one of social phenomena. The social stratification results the social conflict among the members. The member possibly tends to the the higher strata or class, so the society would identify him with a better reputation. The stratification of class itself make the contrasts of economics factor itself make an ambition of one class to make them as high as the class that have reputation in the society and makes the members tend to have a social conflict. Hence, the writer intends to analyze how the character of Lina Broud a reaching the higher class have the member to have a higher identity and reputation. Social mobility is the term that refers to an individual’s ability to change his social strata by moving up or down the ladder of his segementary differentiation. In sociology, social mobility explains changes in social status. One’s ability to achieve a higher social status can depend on factors such as social connection, wealth, effort, and education. Social mobility and the factors will be analyzed through from the novel. Therefore, choosing The Luxe novel, collecting, analyzing, interpretation and findings were sequence method that were applied to reveal the struggle of Lina Broud to reach the higher status of social class from the novel. In conclusion in the Luxe novel, Lina Braud is a maid that obviously comes from low status of class. Braud is dreaming to have the similiar life as other socialites that she knows such as Elizabeth Holland and Penelope Hayes. Lina Braud is struggle to be on higher social class which makes her as a social climber. In the same way, the social mobility by Lina Broud in the novel also represented about American dream as a trigger in American society to pursuit their happiness.
