Abstract

Salah satu jenis pariwisata yang sangat diminati saat ini adalah wisata alam pendakian Gunung Semeru. Peningkatan minat dan jumlah pendaki ternyata telah memberikan dampak negatif terhadap lingkungan Gunung Semeru yang ada pada kawasan Taman Nasional Bromo Tengger Semeru (TNBTS) yang merupakan kawasan konservasi. Dampak tersebut berupa banyaknya sampah yang ditinggal pendaki pada kawasan pendakian, serta kebakaran hutan yang terkadang terjadi pada kawasan dan ancaman kerusakan lainnya. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk melihat bagaimana strategi komunikasi lingkungan yang diterapkan oleh pengelola dalam upaya meningkatkan kesadaran publik (public awareness) terhadap pentingnya menjaga lingkungan wisata terutama pada lingkungan pendakian Gunung Semeru. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah menggunakan studi deskriptif kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data berupa wawancara, observasi, dan dokumentasi. Teknik pemilihan informan menggunakan purposive sampling yaitu petugas/pegawai pada TNBTS. Teknik analisis penelitian ini adalah teknik analisis Miles and Huberman. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa langkah komunikasi lingkungan yang dilakukan oleh pengelola adalah dengan membuat perencanaan komunikasi melalui analisis SWOT, menentukan khalayak sasaran, pemilihan media, desain dan penyusunan pesan, dan pemilihan komunikator. Pengelola menggunakan strategi event dan pelibatan masyarakat melalui adanya briefing tepat sebelum pendakian dimulai, kegiatan “sambung rasa”, bina cinta alam, dan pelibatan porter. Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa komunikasi lingkungan telah dilakukan oleh pengelola Taman Nasional Bromo Tengger Semeru serta mengapplikasikan akivitas komunikasi lingkungan yang disarankan oleh peneliti terdahulu.

English Abstract

One type of tourism that is in great demand today is the nature tourism climbing Mount Semeru. The increase of interest and the number of climbers has negatively impacted the environment of Mount Semeru in the area of Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) which is a conservation area. The impact is the amount of trash left by climbers on the climbing areas, as well as forest fires that sometimes occur in the area and other threats of damage. The purpose of this study is to see how the environmental communication strategy implemented by the manager in an effort to increase public awareness) on the importance of maintaining the tourist environment, especially in Mount Semeru climbing environment. The method used in this research is using qualitative descriptive study. Data collection techniques such as interviews, observation, and documentation. The technique of selecting informants using purposive sampling is officer / employee on TNBTS. The analysis technique of this research is Miles and Huberman analysis technique. The results of this research indicate that the steps of environmental communication undertaken by the manager is to make communication planning through SWOT analysis, determine the target audience, media selection, design and compilation of messages, and the selection of communicators. Managers use an event strategy and community engagement through briefings right before the ascent begins, "sambung rasa" activities, “bina cinta alam”, and porter engagement. These results indicate that environmental communications have been conducted by the managers of Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park and to apply environmental communication activities suggested by previous researchers.
