Abstract
Membaca dan menulis adalah dua kecakapan yang dipelajari siswa di sekolah. Membaca adalah memahami ide penulis yang tertulis yang disampaikan kepada pembaca. Menulis yaitu menyusun ide-ide kedalam kertas untuk menyampaikan kepada pembaca. Pada dasarnya membaca dan menulis saling berhubungan. Penulis meneliti di sekolah ini karena mendorong para siswa untuk banyak membaca buku dan para siswa mendapatkan nilai bagus pada kecakapan menulis. Sehingga penulis ingin mengetahui apakah nilai kecapakapan membaca dan menulis memiliki korelasi satu sama lain. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif yang menggunakan metode korelasi. Sampel adalah 50 siswa dari kelas VII-G dan VII-H SMPN 01 Batu yang dipilih dengan menggunakan teknik cluster. Penelitian menggunakan dua macam tes, tes membaca terdiri dari 20 soal pilihan ganda dan tes menulis. Para siswa mengerjakan kedua tes pada waktu yang sama. Sehingga data diperoleh dari nilai tes dari siswa. Pada penelitian ini, data yang dipeoleh berupa angka-angka dan untuk mengetahui korelasi, SPSS v.20 digunakan Hasil yang dipeoleh pada penelitian ini adalah, korelasi koefisien (r) 0.696 to 9.34. Dengan df 48, dibandingkan dengan rtable dan ttable pada signifikan 5% yaitu 0.368 dan 2.407. Dibuktikan dengan r lebih besar dari rtable (0.696 > 0.368) dan juga t lebih besar dari ttable (9.343 > 2.407). Hal ini berarti adanya korelasi antara nilai kecapakan membaca dan menulis. Menurut hasil yang diperoleh, dapat disimpulkan bahwa adanya korelasi positif. Sehingga hipotesis alternatif (ha) diterima dan hopotesis null (ho) ditolak. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini, diharapkan untuk peneliti selanjutnya agar mengambil lebih banyak lagi sampel, memperdalam konteks penelitian sehingga mendapatkan hasil yang lebih spesifik.
English Abstract
Reading and writing are two of skills that should be learned by students at school. Reading is understanding author ideas which is written to communicate with the readers. Writing is composing the ideas onto paper to communicate with the readers. Basically, reading and writing are interconnected. Thus the researcher wants to know whether reading and writing had correlation each other. The researcher chose SMPN 01 Batu because the teacher encouraged students to read a lot of books and they have good writing score. This study was quantitative research and used correlation method. The samples were 50 students of VII-G and VII-H classes of SMPN 01 Batu which chosen by cluster random sampling. The researcher applied two kinds of tests, reading test that consisted of 20 questions of multiple choices and writing test as an instrument. Therefore, the data are in the form of students’ scores taken from the tests. In this study, the data was in the form of numbers, and to know the correlation, the SPSS v.20 application was used The result of this study, the coefficient correlation (r) was 0.696 and t was 9.34. By df 48, it was compared with rtable and ttable at significant 5% were 0.368 and 2.407. It verified that r was higher than rtable (0.696 > 0.368) and also t was higher than ttable (9.343 > 2.407). It means that there was correlation between reading and writing. Based on the finding, it can be summarized that achievement in reading and writing had positive correlation. It also means that alternative hypothesis (ha) was accepted and null hypothesis (ho) was rejected. Therefore, there was a significant correlation between reading and writing achievement of the 1st year at SMPN 01 Batu.
