Abstract

Alam dan manusia hidup saling berdampingan serta saling berkaitan satu sama lain. Merawat alam, berarti manusia menjaga keseimbangan hidup dirinya sendiri dengan lingkungan alam di sekitarnya. Salah satu contoh bagaimana manusia menjaga alam, dapat dilihat pada masyarakat Madura dengan kearifan lokalnya merawat garam. Di ladang-ladang garam Madura, terpampang kisah hidup bagaimana garam mampu menghidupi ribuan petani selama ratusan tahun. Realitas itu, menyiratkan ikatan erat masyarakat Madura dengan alam sekitarnya. Alam telah menjadi sumber kehidupan manusia. Alam tidak boleh hanya dipandang sebagai alat yang terus dipaksa untuk menghasilkan, tetapi justru sebagai pemberi kehidupan. Garam telah menjadi sumber penghidupan bagi masyarakat di Pulau Madura.Sejak beratus-ratus tahun, secara turun temurun petani garam di Madura melakukan dengan cara yang sangat sederhana dan tradisional, hanya mengandalkan kebaikan alam dan cuaca yang bersahabat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjawab rumusan masalah (1) bagaimana kearifan lokal dalam merawat garam bagi masyarakat Madura (2) juga bagaimana kearifan tersebut berperan dalam konteks hubungan alam dan manusia. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan etnografi dimana peneliti yang menjadi instrumen penelitian turun langsung kelapangan untuk mengumpulkan data. Teknik pengumpulan data yang dilakukan terdiri dari observasi, wawancara mendalam, dan studi literatur. Hasil penelitianini menjelaskanbahwa tradisi di ladang-ladang garam, menjelaskan hubungan alam manusia yang tidak berkesudahan. Melalui tradisi-tradisi yang telah diwariskan nenek moyang, maka usaha garam tetap berlangsung hingga sekarang.Usaha garam menurut masyarakat Prenduan adalah usaha warisan nenek moyang. Sehingga masyarakat tidak bisa meninggalkan apa yang telah diwariskan nenek moyang mereka. Tradisi ini pula yang menjadi kearifan lokal masyarakat Prenduan dalam memproduksi garam. Cara ini disebut dengan caramadurese’ (cara orang Madura). Setiap proses yang dilakukan, berdasarkan warisan nenek moyang mereka. Setiap ritual menyimpan cerita yang diyakini penting dan juga keramat.Yang mengingatkan setiap petani garam bahwa alam telah berjasa bagi keberlangsung hidup mereka.

English Abstract

Nature and human will always live together and always related to each other. By preserving the nature, the human keeping their balance of life with their environtment. One of the example how the human preserving the nature is how the Madurese people, with their local wisdom, preserving the sea salt. Within the Madurese salt farms, there are thousands life stories of how sea salt became the main livelihood of the farmers there. The reality that sea salt can support the live of many farmers there showing that there is a strong relationship between the Madurese people and the environtment around them. Nature has become the resource of human's life. Nature should not be seen only as an equipment that can be forced to produce, but nature should be seen as something that made human can continue their life. Sea salt had become the livelihood of the people in Madura Island. Since years ago, from generation to generation, the sea salt farmers in Madura produce sea salt with a very primitive and traditional methods; by leaning their livelihood to the goodness of nature and the good weather. This study conducted to answer the problems of the study of this research (1) how is the local wisdom in preserving sea salt for Madurese people (2) how those local wisdom have a role in the context of nature and human relationship. The research method used in this research is the ethnographical approach where the researcher have a role as the research instrument, which means that the researcher will directly involved in thefield to collecting the data. The data collection techniques applied in this research are observation, in-depth interview, and literary study. The results of this studyexplainthat the traditions in sea salt farms showed a never-ending relation between nature and human. Through the traditions that passed down from generation to generation, the sea salt farming business are still continue to support the life of Madurese people until now. This sea salt farming business, according to the people of Prenduan, is the business that passed down to them for their ancestors. Therefore, they cannot leave something that passed down by their ancestors. These traditions also become the local wisdom of Prenduan people in producing salt. These production methods are called madurese’ (Madurese people salt production method). Every process conducted in this salt production are based on the heritage of their ancestors. Every ritual contain stories that important and sacred for them. The stories that will remind evey sea salt farmers about the important role of nature for the continuation of their life.
