Abstract
Departemen Ilmu Komunikasi FISIPOL UGM merupakan lembaga penyelenggara pendidikan Ilmu Komunikasi tertua di Indonesia. Lebih dari enam dekade Departemen Ilmu Komunikasi FISIPOL UGM berdiri dan sempat mengalami beberapa kali pergantian nama, yakni Jurusan Publisitit, Jurusan Kemasyarakatan dan Publisitit, Jurusan Ilmu Publisistik, Jurusan Ilmu Komunikasi, dan hingga sekarang menjadi Departemen Ilmu Komunikasi. Penelitian ini menerapkan landasan berpikir filsafat untuk melihat bagaimana hakikat Ilmu Komunikasi di Departemen Ilmu Komunikasi FISIPOL UGM dari sudut pandang filsafat komunikasi. Penelitian studi lembaga ini penting dalam kajian Ilmu Komunikasi di Indonesia karena berkonstribusi untuk memetakan kajian Ilmu Komunikasi sesuai dengan lembaga yang dikaji. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa tidak ada penggunaan paradigma tunggal yang diterapkan dalam melakukan penelitian sehingga Departemen Ilmu Komunikasi FISIPOL UGM meski lebih didominasi oleh paradigma konstruktivis namun tidak menutup kesempatan dalam menggunakan paradigma positivis dan kritis sehingga dalam hal ini Departemen Ilmu Komunikasi FISIPOL UGM lebih mengedepankan multi-paradigma. Selain itu, kajian Departemen Ilmu Komunikasi FISIPOL UGM cenderung lebih mengarah pada permintaan pasar terlihat dari acuan pembuatan kurikulum meski dari segi keilmuan atau teori Departemen Ilmu Komunikasi FISIPOL UGM juga berusaha untuk mengembangkannya. Di samping itu, Departemen Ilmu Komunikasi FISIPOL UGM memiliki kecenderungan kritis karena letak UGM sendiri yang jauh dari dunia industri dan pemerintahan sehingga lebih leluasa dalam mengamati fenomena sosial dengan lebih tajam.
English Abstract
Departement of Communication Science FISIPOL UGM is one of the oldest institution of communication science in Indonesia. More than six decades of Departement of Communication Science FISIPOL UGM has long been established and the name has been change for several times, namely Departement of Publisitit, Department of Public and Publisitit, Department of Publisistik Science, Department of Communication Science until now. This research applies a philosophical thinking base to see how the nature of Communication Science in the Department of Communication Science FISIPOL UGM from the point of view of communication philosophy. This institution study study is important in the study of Communication Science in Indonesia because it contributes to mapping the study of Communication Science in accordance with the institutions studied. The results of this study indicate that there is no single paradigm applied in conducting research so that the Department of Communication Science FISIPOL UGM although more dominated by constructivist paradigm but did not close the opportunity in using positivist and critical paradigm so that in this case the Department of Communication Science FISIPOL UGM put forward multi- paradigm. In addition, the study of the Department of Communication Science FISIPOL UGM tends to be more directed to the market demand seen from the curriculum-making reference although in terms of science or theory Department of Communication Science FISIPOL UGM also trying to develop it. In addition, the Department of Communication Science FISIPOL UGM has a critical tendency because the location of UGM itself is far from industrial and government so that more freely in observing social phenomena more sharply.
