Abstract

English Abstract

The current development of tourism sector leads to the concept of eco-agrotourism, which is the concept of sustainable tourism, environmentally friendly, and community empowerment. However, many village tourism programs created by the government are still being implemented through a top-down regional planning approach, not a buttom up. As a result, the village tourism program is abandoned, temporarily survive, and does not empower local communities. Based on these problems, this study aims to identify the social capital bonding and bridging found in Kampung Ekologi Batu Into Green and analyze the role of social capital in the development of Batu Into Green Ecology Village so that the success of the empowerment program can be achieved. The research was conducted from March to April 2017 at BIG Ecological Village located in RW 06 Temas Village, Batu City, East Java. Informants in this study amounted to 13 people consisting of 9 key indormant and 4 support informant and determined intentionally (purposive). Methods of data collection were conducted by in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation analyzed descriptively using Miles and Huberman interactive methods. The results show that social capital bonding is formed by the culture of mutual assistance, the emotional support of the family, the willingness to give time, energy, and money, the relationship of mutual reminding to improve the environment, and communication conflict. The social capital of bridging is identified by the openness of the community to the presence of volunteers, the role of opening a new network, the feelings of volunteers as part of the community, and there is a mutual relationship. Social capital bonding and bridging serve as the basic capital of the existence of empowerment cycle, change the mindset, and play a role in improving the economy of society.
