Abstract

English Abstract

Maize is the second most important food commodity after rice. Maize very beneficial for human lives and livestock. Maize contains carbohydrates, fats, proteins, minerals, vitamins and water. One of the problems of maize is stored-product pests. Rice Weevil (Sitophilus oryzae) is one of the main post-harvest pest of the order Coleoptera which damage stored grain including maize. One of the healthy control effort and friendly environment that is the use of the resistant variety that used to reduce against the attacks of pests and diseases. This research was carried out in the laboratory of Pest, Department of Plant Pests and Disease, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Brawijaya, it was start from October 2016 until January 2017. The research method was used Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with six treatments that were BISI 2, 18, 22, 816 and BISMA. This research purposes (1) to get genotype which resistant to S. oryzae attack and (2) examine resistance in each genotype from six treatment. The results showed there were four seeds that belongs ressistant were BISI 2, 18, 22 and BISMA and two seeds that belongs enough ressistant were BISI 16 and BISI 816. The difference of the resistance level was affected by the number of new adult and the median development time. The number of new adult and the median development time were obtained through observation of the growth and development of S. oryzae. In addition, the number of new adult and the median development time were also influenced by hardness level of seed and the content of protein in diet.
