Abstract
Food Security merupakan salah satu isu global yang hingga saat ini masih menjadi bahasan yang belum terselesaikan, terutama di beberapa kawasan seperti kawasan Afrika. Zambia merupakan sebuah negara di kawasan Afrika bagian selatan telah mengalami food insecurity selama kurang lebih 2 dekade terakhir. Di saat krisis pangan mélanda negaranya, Zambia justru menolak bantuan pangan GMO pada tahun 2002. Pada perkembangannya tidak hanya bantuan pangan yang ia tolak, melainkan seluruh produk GMO ditolak oleh Zambia. Tulisan ini mengkaji mengenai penolakan Zambia terhadap produk pangan GMO tersebut dalam kurun waktu 2002-2015 dimana pada saat tersebut Zambia mengalami krisis pangan, dikaji dari konsep Balance of Interest yang dikemukakan oleh Randall Schweller. Jenis penelitian ini adalah deskriptif dengan metode penelitian kualitatif.
English Abstract
Food Security is one of the global issues that is still an unresolved topic in several regions such as Africa. Zambia is a country in the southern Africa that has experienced food insecurity for approximately the last 2 decades. During its country's food crisis, Zambia bravely refused GMO food aid in 2002. As time goes by, Zambia does not only reject the GMO food, the inauguration of all GMO products (including imported ones) were also rejected by Zambia. This paper examines the rejection of Zambia on GMO food products during the period of 2002-2015, at which time Zambia experienced food crisis, examined by the concept of Balance of Interest proposed by Randall Schweller. This research type is descriptive with qualitative research method.
