Pengaruh Penambahan NaOH dan CaO terhadap Penurunan BOD dan COD pada Limbah Cair Industri Sari Apel

Astuti, Luluk Indri (2017) Pengaruh Penambahan NaOH dan CaO terhadap Penurunan BOD dan COD pada Limbah Cair Industri Sari Apel. Sarjana thesis, Universitas Brawijaya.

Abstract

English Abstract

In this study, we have studied the effect of NaOH and CaO addition on the decrease of BOD and COD on industrial effluent of apple juice. Prior to the research, the liquid waste of the apple cider industry was made in several variations of pH of 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 by adding NaOH and CaO with concentrations of 1M each. At each pH value, BOD and COD measurements were performed by using the standard method, in BOD using Winkler method, by calculating the difference of dissolved oxygen content (DO0) with dissolved oxygen content after incubation period for 5 days (DO5), while In COD using reflux method that is by decomposing organic material by using potassium bichromate in acidic and hot atmosphere using silver sulfate catalyst, excess potassium bichromate which is used is titrated and calculated so that COD value can be known. The result of the research showed that in addition NaOH the highest percentage of BOD decrease at pH 7 that is 82,50% and COD at pH 6 that is 30,76%. While in addition CaO percentage decrease BOD and COD highest at pH 7 that is equal to 64,75% and 19,23%. In terms of its effectiveness, NaOH is more effective in lowering BOD and COD levels compared with CaO. Because it can reduce the BOD and COD levels greater.
