Abstract

Kecepatan angin di Indonesia berkisar dari 2-6 m/s. Terdapat turbin angin yang dapat beroperasi pada kecepatan angin rendah, yaitu turbin angin savonius. Hingga saat ini, sudah banyak penelitian yang dilakukan mengenai variabel untuk meingkatkan unjuk kerja turbin angin savonius, diantaranya penelitian mengenai jarak antar sudu dan bentuk sudu. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimental untuk mengetahui pengaruh jarak antar sudu terhadap unjuk kerja turbin angina savonius dengan masing-masing variasi jarak antar sudu 0 cm, 1 cm, 2 cm, and 3 cm. Sudu yang digunakan memiliki bentuk profil U dengan sudut puntir 45o. Turbin angin yang digunakan memiliki dua sudu dengan masing-masing jarak antar sudu yang digunakan 0 cm, 1cm, 2 cm, and 3 cm. Penelitian ditest menggunakan wind tunnel dengan kecepatan 2 m/s, 3 m/s, 4 m/s dan 5 m/s. Data keluaran yang diambil adalag tegangan, arus listrik dan rpm. Setelah itu, data keluaran akan diproses menjadi daya poros dan efisiensi sebagai parameter unjuk kerja. Dari penelitian yang dilakukan, didapatkan hasil bahwa penambahan kecepatan angin mempengaruhi unjuk kerja turbin angin. Semakin besar kecepatan angin, maka nilai daya poros akan meningkat. Nilai daya poros tertinggi disetiap variasi jarak antar sudu terdapat pada kecepatan angin 5 m/s. Selain itu, semakin lebar jarak antar sudu, maka nilai daya poros akan menurun. Nilai daya poros tertinggi dimiliki oleh jarak antar sudu 0 cm. Namun, nilai efisiensi tertinggi pada masing-masing jarak antar sudu berbeda tergantung kecepatan angin.

English Abstract

Range of wind velocity in Indonesia is 2-6 m/s. The wind turbine that can operate in low wind velocity is savonius wind turbine. There were so many researches that aimed to improve savonius performance, such as the researches about rotor gap and rotor shape. This research aimed to know the effect of rotor gap distance on savonius wind turbine perfomance with twisted shape and “U” profile. In a study using real experimental study investigated the effect of this performance of savonius wind turbine using a variation of gap distance, 0 cm, 1 cm, 2 cm, and 3 cm, respectively. Blades were used have “U” profil with 45o as twisted degree. Blades also have two pieces with gap distance are 1cm, 2 cm, and 3 cm, respectively. The research was tested at wind tunnel speed of 2 m/s, 3 m/s, 4 m/s and 5 m/s. We took voltage, electrical current, rpm as output data. After that, output datas were proceed to be shaft power (BHP) and efficiency as performance parameters. The results showed that the addition of rotor gap distance affect to shaft power and efficiency of turbine significantly. The higher of gap rotor distance, the shaft power will decrease. The highest shaft power value is owned by the turbine with rotor gap distance 0 cm. The higher wind velocity, the shaft power will increase. The highest shaft power value in each variation of rotor gap distance is at 5 m / s. However, the highest efficiency value for each rotor gap distance differ depending on the wind speed.
