Abstract
Penggunaan peranti ortodonti cekat dapat menyebabkan pengguna peranti ortodonti cekat kesulitan dalam menjaga kebersihan rongga mulut, sehingga dapat meningkatkan akumulasi bakteri dan plak pada gigi yang merupakan penyebab utama penyakit periodontal. Tindakan preventif yang efektif diperlukan untuk mencegah akumulasi plak, dapat dilakukan secara mekanis yang dibantu secara kimiawi dengan menggunakan pasta gigi. Saat ini telah dikembangkan pasta gigi ortodonti dengan kandungan kolostrum dan pasta gigi non ortodonti yang keduanya digunakan oleh pengguna peranti ortodonti cekat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan penggunaan pasta gigi ortodonti dan non ortodonti terhadap akumulasi plak pada pengguna ortodonti cekat. Jenis penelitian pada penelitian ini adalah true eksperimental dengan metode pre and post-test design. Sampel dibagi menjadi 2 kelompok perlakuan, kelompok pertama diinstruksikan untuk menyikat gigi dengan pasta gigi ortodonti dan kelompok kedua menyikat gigi dengan pasta gigi non ortodonti, masing-masing selama 14 hari. Berdasarkan hasil uji statistik t tidak berpasangan diperoleh nilai signifikansi pada hari pertama sebesar 0,0 (p<0,05) dan pada hari ke-14 sebesar 0,017 (p<0,05). Kesimpulan penelitian ini adalah terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan pada penggunaan pasta gigi ortodonti dan non ortodonti terhadap akumulasi plak pengguna peranti ortodonti cekat di FKG UB Malang.
English Abstract
The use of fixed orthodontic appliances can cause the users of fixed orthodontic appliance having trouble in maintaining oral hygiene, thereby increasing the accumulation of bacteria and plaque on the tooth which is the leading cause of periodontal disease. Effective preventive measures are needed to prevent plaque accumulation, it can be mechanically assisted with the use of toothpaste. Currently, orthodontic toothpaste has been developed with colostrum and non-orthodontic toothpaste which both used by the fixed orthodontic appliance user. This study aims to determine the difference in the use of orthodontic and non-orthodontic toothpaste on plaque accumulation in fixed orthodontic appliance users. The type of this study is true experimental with method of pre and post-test design. The sample was divided into 2 treatment groups, the first group was instructed to brush the teeth with orthodontic toothpaste and the second group brushed with non-orthodontic toothpaste, for 14 days long for each toothpaste. Based on the result of unpaired t test statistic, the significance value on the first day was 0,0 (p <0,05) and on the fourteenth day was 0,017 (p <0,05). Conclusion of this study there were significant difference in the use of orthodontic and non-orthodontic toothpaste on plaque accumulation in fixed orthodontic appliances users at FKG UB Malang.
