Abstract
Film merupakan seperti refleksi dari kehidupan manusia, dan peneliti berkinginan untuk menganalisa film dalam penelitian. Hal ini ditunjukkan oleh film yang berjudul “Raising Victor Vargas” yang menceritakan kehidupan remaja sehari-hari dengan keluarga dan teman-temannya. Tujuan peneliti memilih film ini adalah karena film ini mengandung sedikit percakapan dan situasi yang bersifat formal. Terdapat dua masalah yang harus dipecahkan dalam penelitian ini, yaitu (1) apa sajakah tipe-tipe Substitusi yang digunakan dalam film yang berjudul Raising Victor Vargas dan (2) apa sajakah tipe-tipe Elipsis yang digunakan dalam film yang berjudul Raising Victor Vargas Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif untuk memecahkan masalah di atas. Penelitian deskiptif dalam analisis dokumen diterapkan dalam penelitian ini untuk menemukan tipe-tipe Substitusi dan Elipsis di percakapan setiap tokoh lewat skrip di film tersebut. Untuk menganalisa Substitusi dan Elipsis di dalam film ini, peneliti membaca dan mengidentifikasi skrip tersebut dan menandai kata-kata di dalam percakapan yang mengandung Substitusi dan Elipsis. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa tipe-tipe Substitusi (Substitusi Nomina, Verba, dan Klausa) dan Elipsis (Specific, Ordinal, Cardinal, Identified Quantifier, Superlative Adjective, Comparative Adjective, Lexical, Modal, Propositional, Yes/No, and W/H Ellipsis) dari Halliday dan Hassan (1976) digunakan di dalam film. Sebaliknya, terdapat beberapa Elipsis yang tidak ditemukan oleh peneliti, diantaranya Non-specific dan Post Deictic dari Numeral as Head dalam Nominal Ellipsis; dan Operator Ellipsis dari Verbal Ellipsis. Alasan mengapa beberapa dari Elipsis ang disebutkan di atas tidak ditemukan karena tokoh-tokoh dalam film menggunakan bahasa informal untuk berkomunikasi satu sama lain, dan percakapan mereka antaa teman dan keluarga. Sebagai tambahan, peneliti memberikan saran kepada peneliti selanjutnya agar lebih selektif dalam memilih film sebagai objek penelitian, dalam artian memilah dahulu seperti apa dan bertemakan apa sesuai dengan topik yang dipilih dalam penelitian. Selanjutnya yaitu saran ditujukan kepada penonton film untuk lebih hati-hati untuk menonton film apapun untuk menghindari kebingungan dan untuk penerjemah film agar lebih hati-hati dalam menerjemahkannya dengan cara mempertimbangkan kata-kata stsu kalimat-kalimat yang dihilangkan.
English Abstract
Movie is a kind of reflection of human life, and the researcher intended to analyze movie in a research. It is showed in the movie entitled “Raising Victor Vargas”, which tells a story about a teenager with his family and his friends. The reason that the researcher chose this movie is because this movie contains less formal situations and conversations. There are two problems to be solved in the study, namely: (1) What are the types of Substitution used in a movie entitled Raising Victor Vargas and (2) What are the types of Ellipsis used in a movie entitled Raising Victor Vargas. This study uses qualitative approach in in order to solve the problems of the study. Descriptive study in document analysis is applied in this study to find out types of Substitution and Ellipsis in conversation of the characters through the script of “Raising Victor Vargas” movie. In order to analyze Substitution and Ellipsis in the movie, the researcher reads and identifies the script and then mark the word in the conversation that contains Substitution and Ellipsis. This study shows that the types of Substitution (Nominal, Verbal, Clausal Substitutions) and Ellipsis (Post, Ordinal, Cardinal, Identified Quantifier, Superlative Adjective, Comparative Adjective, Lexical, Modal, Propositional, Yes/No, and W/H Ellipsis) from Halliday and Hassan (1976) are used in this movie proven by findings data. On the contrary, there are some Ellipses that he did not find, there are Non-specific and Post Deictic, which came from Numeral as Head in Nominal Ellipsis; and Operator Ellipsis which came from Verbal Ellipsis. The reason why Non-Specific, Post, and Operator Ellipsis did not find because the characters used informal language to communicate to each other, and their conversations are between friends and family. In addition, the researcher gives suggestion to the next researchers who want to do similar research to be selective in choosing the movie as the object of the their research by means what kind of movie and how the theme of the movie is, which related to the object of the research. The next suggestions will be delivered for movie viewer to be more careful to watch any movie to prevent confusion and the movie translator will translate the subtitle of a movie carefully by considering omitted words or sentences.
