Abstract
Setiap orang memiliki cara tersendiri dalam berkomunikasi. Seperti yang dikutip dari Heaton dan Paris (2006) bahwa sebuah lagu adalah sebuah cara efektif untuk menyampaikan sebuah konsep atau ide dengan cara yang mudah diingat. Berdasarkan penjelasan diatas, lirik-lirik lagu menjadi sebuah cara dalam berkomunikasi. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui klasifikasi perangkatperangkat yang terdapat dalam lirik-lirik lagu Ed Sheeran. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi macam-macam perangkat-perangkat kohesi yang digunakan dalam lirik-lirik Ed Sheeran dan menemukan tipe perangkatperangkat kohesi yang mendominasi yang ditemukan dalam lirik-lirik Ed Sheeran. Peneliti menggunakan 6 lagu dari album “Plus” sebagai data dalam penelitian ini. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kwalitatifdeskriptif untuk menganalisa data. Lagu-lagu diambil dengan menggunakan dua sample yaitu simple random sampling (SRS) dan purposive sampling (PS). Penelitian ini menggunakan teori dari Halliday dan Hasan (1976) untuk menganalisa data. Berdasarkanhasil dari analisa, ini mengungkapkan bahwa hampir semua jenis kohesi grammatical yang diusulkan oleh Halliday dan Hasan (1976) terdapat dalam lirik-lirik lagu Ed Sheeran dalam album “Plus”. Kohesi devices yang terkandung adalah (1) referensi yang terdiri dari personal, demonstrative, comparative reference; (2) substitusi yang terdiridari verbal substitution; (3) ellipsis yang terdiri dari nominal ellipsis; dan (4) konjungsi yang terdiri dari additive, adversative, causal, dan temporal conjunction. Dari 6 lirik lagu yang menjalani kohesi devices, itu ditemukan bahwa kohesi grammatical yang paling banyak digunakan adalah personal reference dengan 626 data.
English Abstract
Everyone has his own way to communicate. As cited by Heaton and Paris (2006) that a song is an effective way to communicate a concept or idea in a memorable way. Related to the explanation above, the lyrics of the song become a way of communication. This research was conducted to find out the gammatical cohesion that occurs in the lyrics of Ed Sheeran songs. The aims of this research are to identify the kinds of grammatical cohesion used in the lyrics of Ed Sheeran and find the dominant type of grammatical cohesion found in the lyrics of Ed Sheeran. This research used descriptive qualitative method to analyze the data. Besides, the researcher used 6 songs from “Plus” album as the data of this research. The songs are taken by using two sampleswhich are simple random sampling (SRS) and purposive sampling (PS). This research used the theory ofHalliday and Hasan (1976) to analyze the data. Based on the result, it was revealed that almost all types of grammatical cohesion proposed by Halliday and Hasan (1976) occured in the lyrics of Ed Sheeran songs in the “Plus” album. The grammatical cohesion that occur are (1) reference that consists of personal, demonstrative, comparative reference; (2) substitution that consists of verbal substitution; (3) ellipsis that consists of nominal ellipsis; and (4) conjunction that consists of additive, adversative, causal, and temporal conjunction. From the 6 songs lyrics, it was found that the most grammatical cohesion used were personal reference with 626 data.
