Abstract
Hubungan berpacaran secara long distance relationship merupakan sebuah fenomena yang mengharuskan sebuah pasangan berpacaran untuk tidak bisa bertemu secara tatap muka dalam kurun waktu tertentu. Akibatnya, hubungan sering terjadi konflik yang dimana salah satu penyelesaian konflik tersebut adalah dengan menggunakan deceptive communication. Tujuan penelitian ini ialah untuk mengetahui mengetahui motif deceptive communication pada pasangan pacaran jarak jauh sebagai upaya pemeliharaan hubungan. Dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif, penelitian ini menggunakan wawancara mendalam dan analisis dokumen untuk mengumpulkan data yang komprehensif. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa diketahui motif seseorang melakukan deceptive communication kepada pasangannya ialah karena tidak ingin melukai perasaan orang lain dan menghindari potensi terjadinya sebuah konflik. Para informan mengatakan bahwa dengan berbohong mereka dapat melindungi greater goods ataupun kebaikan yang lebih besar. Oleh karena itu, para informan memilih untuk melakukan kebohongan agar tetap dapat terpeliharanya hubungan berpacaran yang sedang mereka jalani.
English Abstract
Long distance relationship is a phenomenon that requires a dating couple to not be able to meet face-to-face for a certain period of time. As a result, the relationship often occurs conflicts where one of the conflict resolution is to use deceptive communication. The purpose of this research is to find out the motives of deceptive communication in long-distance dating couples as an effort to maintain the relationship. By using descriptive qualitative method, this research uses in-depth interviews and document analysis to collect comprehensive data. The results of this study show that it is known that the motive for someone to do deceptive communication to their partner is because they do not want to hurt other people's feelings and avoid the potential for conflict. The informants said that by lying they could protect greater goods. Therefore, the informants chose to lie in order to maintain their dating relationship.
