Abstract

English Abstract

Hypertension is a non-communicable disease (NCD) that is the leading cause of death in the world. Risk factors for hypertension include age, gender, obesity, excessive salt consumption, alcohol consumption, smoking, lack of exercise, and genetic factors. In addition, increased uric acid levels and total cholesterol levels are often associated with the risk of increased blood pressure values. This study aims to determine the relationship between uric acid levels and total cholesterol levels with blood pressure values in hypertensive patients at Mulyorejo Health Center, Malang City. This study used an observational quantitative design with a cross sectional approach with the sampling technique used, namely purposive sampling with a sample size of 72 respondents. The research instrument used a questionnaire of respondent characteristics and the results of the examination of uric acid levels, total cholesterol levels, and the last blood pressure value. The relationship between uric acid levels and systolic blood pressure values obtained a p-value of 0.126 and a correlation coefficient of 0.182, while the relationship between uric acid levels and diastolic blood pressure values obtained a p-value of 0.643 and a correlation coefficient of 0.056 in the negative direction. The relationship between total cholesterol levels and systolic blood pressure values obtained a p-value of 0.062 and a correlation coefficient of 0.221, while the relationship between total cholesterol levels and diastolic blood pressure obtained a p-value of 0.800 and a correlation coefficient of 0.030 in a negative direction. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that uric acid levels and total cholesterol levels do not have a significant relationship with blood pressure values in hypertensive patients.
