Abstract
Prevalensi anak dengan retardasi mental yang memiliki keterbatasan dalam kemampuan intelektual, adaptif, dan sosial dengan hambatan menjalankan aktivitas sehari-hari semakin meningkat. Kemandirian anak retardasi mental perlu dikembangkan melalui peran orangtua, yang memiliki pengaruh signifikan melalui parental attitude yang mendukung perkembangan anak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis hubungan parental attitude dengan kemandirian pada anak retardasi mental di SLB-C Kota Malang. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain korelasional dengan pendekatan cross-sectional. Sampel penelitian ini sebanyak 180 responden dipilih dengan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah Parental Attitude of Mentally Retarded Children Scale untuk mengukur parental attitude dan Functional Independence Measure for Children (WeeFIM) untuk mengukur kemandirian anak. Hasil uji korelasi Spearman-Rank menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hubungan antara parental attitude dengan kemandirian anak retardasi mental ringan di SLB-C Kota Malang dengan nilai p-value 0,003 dan nilai koefisien korelasi (r) 0,306 yang bersifat positif. Namun, tidak terdapat hubungan antara parental attitude dengan kemandirian anak retardasi mental sedang di SLB-C Kota Malang dengan nilai p-value 0,103 dan koefisien korelasi (r) 0,176. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan parental attitude tidak berhubungan dengan kemandirian anak retardasi mental sedang. Oleh karena itu, perlu adanya upaya untuk meningkatkan kemandirian anak dengan memperhatikan berbagai faktor internal dan eksternal seperti klasifikasi retardasi mental, dukungan orangtua, pengetahuan orangtua, dan parenting style.
English Abstract
The prevalence of children with intellectual disabilities who face limitations in intellectual, adaptive, and social abilities, as well as challenges in performing daily activities, is increasing. The independence of children with intellectual disabilities needs to be developed through the role of parents, whose influence is significant through parental attitudes that support the child’s development. This study aims to analyze the relationship between parental attitudes and independence in children with intellectual disabilities at SLB-C in Malang. The study employed a correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 180 respondents were selected using a purposive sampling technique. The instruments used were the Parental Attitude of Mentally Retarded Children Scale to measure parental attitudes and the Functional Independence Measure for Children (WeeFIM) to measure the children’s independence. The results of the Spearman-Rank correlation test showed a positive relationship between parental attitudes and the independence of children with mild intellectual disabilities at SLB-C in Malang, with a p-value of 0,003 and a correlation coefficient (r) of 0,306. However, no significant relationship was found between parental attitudes and the independence of children with moderate intellectual disabilities, with a p-value of 0,103 and a correlation coefficient (r) of 0,176. The findings indicate that parental attitudes are not associated with the independence of children with moderate intellectual disabilities. Therefore, efforts are needed to enhance children’s independence by considering various internal and external factors, such as the classification of intellectual disability, parental support, parental knowledge, and parenting styles.
