Abstract
Kambing Peranakan Etawa (PE) mempunyai peran strategis dalam pengembangan peternakan Indonesia. Kambing PE telah berkembang dan diakui sebagai rumpun ternak local Indonesia melalui keputusan Menteri Pertanian No.695/Kpts/PD.410/2/2013. Penetapan rumpun merepresentasikan upaya pemerintah untuk mempertahankan dan meningkatkan potensi genetik ternak lokal. Permasalahan yang dihadapi dalam pengembangan kambing PE adalah mutu genetik tidak mengalami peningkatan yang signifikan. Peningkatan mutu genetik ditentukan oleh program seleksi yang akurat berdasarkan parameter genetik dan kriteria seleksi yang tepat
English Abstract
Peranakan Etawa (PE) goats play a strategic role in Indonesia's livestock development. PE goats have evolved and been recognised as a local Indonesian livestock breed through the Minister of Agriculture's Decree No.695/Kpts/PD.410/2/2013. The breed designation represents the government's efforts to maintain and enhance the genetic potential of local livestock. The challenge faced in PE goat development is that genetic quality has not shown significant improvement. Genetic quality enhancement is determined by accurate selection programmes based on genetic parameters and proper selection criteria
