Abstract
Penggunaan sosial media di kalangan remaja terus meningkat. Seiring waktu, terjadi perubahan kebiasaan penggunaan sosial media. Remaja lebih sering mengakses konten yang singkat dan cepat, yang dicerna tanpa perhatian mendalam. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis hubungan antara perbedaan penggunaan sosial media dan attention span pada remaja di SMPN 3 Malang dan SMAN 3 Malang. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain kuantitatif korelasional dengan pendekatan cross-sectional. Sampel diambil secara stratified random sampling, dan data dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner durasi, frekuensi, ELAS. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, didapati bahwa durasi penggunaan sosial media remaja 6 jam per hari dan frekuensi penggunaan sosial media 8 kali per hari. Nilai attention span terendah pada kegiatan membaca (59,38) dan tertinggi pada kegiatan mengobrol (73,75). Durasi menunjukkan korelasi negatif signifikan terhadap membaca (r = -0,172, p = 0,001), kegiatan indoor (r = -0,208, p < 0,001), belajar di kelas (r = -0,155, p = 0,003), dan lainnya. Frekuensi juga berkorelasi negatif signifikan pada kegiatan indoor (r = -0,147, p = 0,005), belajar di kelas (r = -0,145, p = 0,005), mengerjakan tugas (r = -0,221, p < 0,001), dan membersihkan (r = -0,166, p = 0,001). Penelitian ini menunjukkan durasi dan frekuensi penggunaan sosial media berhubungan dengan penurunan attention span remaja. Diperlukan adanya intervensi edukasi untuk mengelola penggunaan sosial media di kalangan remaja guna meningkatkan attention span.
English Abstract
The use of social media among adolescents continues to rise. Over time, there have been changes in social media usage habits. Adolescents more frequently access short and quick content that is consumed without deep attention. This study aims to analyze the relationship between differences in social media use and attention span among adolescents at SMPN 3 Malang and SMAN 3 Malang. The research employs a correlational quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. Samples were taken using stratified random sampling, and data were collected through duration, frequency questionnaires, and the Everyday Life Attention Scale (ELAS). Based on the research results, it was found that the duration of social media use among adolescents is 6 hours per day and the frequency of social media use is 8 times per day. The lowest attention span value was found during reading activities (59.38) and the highest during chatting activities (73.75). Duration showed a significant negative correlation with reading (r = -0.172, p = 0.001), indoor activities (r = -0.208, p < 0.001), classroom learning (r = -0.155, p = 0.003), and others. Frequency also showed a significant negative correlation with indoor activities (r = -0.147, p = 0.005), classroom learning (r = -0.145, p = 0.005), doing assignments (r = - 0.221, p < 0.001), and cleaning (r = -0.166, p = 0.001). This study indicates that the duration and frequency of social media use are related to a decrease in adolescents' attention span. Educational interventions are needed to manage social media use among adolescents to improve their attention span.
