Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji praktik utang sebagai strategi bertahan hidup keluarga-keluarga di Lingkungan Songgoriti, Kota Batu, selama pandemi Covid- 19. Krisis akibat menurunnya kunjungan wisata, yang menjadi sumber utama ekonomi melalui persewaan villa, mendorong masyarakat untuk memilih utang sebagai solusi utama. Studi ini bertujuan memahami alasan di balik keputusan tersebut serta langkah-langkah yang diambil setelahnya. Menggunakan pendekatan etnografi, penelitian ini memfokuskan pada empat keluarga melalui observasi dan wawancara. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa utang memang menjadi bagian dari krisis. Namun, di sisi lain juga menjadi bentuk respon yang diambil karena dianggap mampu membangun harapan mereka tentang ekonomi villa Program pinjaman seperti PNM Mekaar menjadi pilihan utama. Analisis dengan teori make a living dari Narotzky dan Besnier (2014) menyoroti konsep krisis, nilai, dan harapan dalam praktik ekonomi sehari-hari. Penelitian ini memberikan wawasan tentang adaptasi ekonomi masyarakat lokal di wilayah periurban selama krisis, sekaligus menyoroti peran penting perempuan dalam pengelolaan keuangan keluarga dan strategi bertahan hidup.

English Abstract

This research examines the practice of debt as a survival strategy for families in Songgoriti Neighborhood, Batu City, during the Covid-19 pandemic. The crisis due to the decline in tourist visits, which became the main source of the economy through villa rentals, encouraged people to choose debt as the main solution. This study aims to understand the reasons behind the decision and the steps taken afterward. Using an ethnographic approach, the study focused on four families through observation and interviews. The results show that debt is indeed part of the crisis. However, on the other hand, it is also a form of response taken because it is considered capable of building their hopes about the villa economy Loan programs such as PNM Mekaar are the main choice. Analysis with Narotzky and Besnier's (2014) make a living theory highlights the concepts of crisis, value and hope in everyday economic practice. This research provides insight into the economic adaptation of local communities in peri-urban areas during the crisis, while highlighting the important role of women in family financial management and survival strategies.
