Abstract

English Abstract

External factors including societal expectations and familial pressures all have significant effects on the personalities of humans and characters, influencing their behavior, decisions, and self-perception. This study looks at how external circumstances influence Alexander Gabriel Claremont-Diaz's personality development in Casey McQuiston's Red, White, and Royal Blue. Using Pickering and Hoeper’s characterization theory and compiled by Albertine Minderop's and Freud's psychoanalytic framework specifically the ideas of personality structure (id, ego, and superego) and defensive mechanisms the study investigates the relationship between external influences and Alex's internal conflicts. The findings show that parental expectations and political pressures are important external influences on Alex's personality and self-identity. Furthermore, these factors deepen his internal conflicts as he deals with between his hidden impulses and societal expectations. This study emphasizes the importance of social dynamics in identity formation and helps to the increasing body of queer literary analysis by exploring the relationship between external influences and personal growth.
