Abstract
Jenis kelamin mengacu pada perbedaan biologis antara laki-laki dan perempuan, sementara gender adalah identitas maskulinitas dan feminitas yang dikonstruksi secara sosial. Ketidaksetaraan sering terjadi akibat norma patriarki yang menempatkan laki-laki lebih dominan, sedangkan perempuan dihadapkan pada tuntutan menjadi sosok ‘ideal’ yang sering tidak dihargai. Dalam media dan literatur, perempuan kerap digambarkan sebagai karakter subordinat yang bergantung, memperkuat stereotip gender tradisional. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan feminis untuk menganalisis film Raya and the Last Dragon (2021), khususnya reduksi kekuatan perempuan pada karakter Raya. Raya, yang awalnya digambarkan sebagai sosok cerdas, kuat, dan mandiri, perlahan diposisikan lebih bergantung pada karakter pendukung, Sisu, seekor naga ajaib. Beberapa adegan penting menunjukkan bagaimana representasi progresif tokoh perempuan dalam film ini terganggu oleh skenario yang memperkuat stereotip gender tertentu. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa meskipun berusaha membangun karakter perempuan yang kuat, narasi film ini tetap menyisipkan elemen yang membatasi kemandirian perempuan. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat menjadi referensi untuk analisis representasi perempuan dalam media populer serta memperluas diskusi tentang kesetaraan gender.
English Abstract
Sex refers to the biological differences between men and women, while gender is the socially constructed identity of masculinity and femininity. Inequality often results from patriarchal norms that place men as dominant, while women are faced with the demands of being an 'ideal' figure that is often unappreciated. In media and literature, women are often portrayed as subordinate, dependent characters, reinforcing traditional gender stereotypes. This research uses a feminist approach to analyze the film Raya and the Last Dragon (2021), specifically the reduction of female power in the character of Raya. Raya, who is initially portrayed as intelligent, strong, and independent, is slowly positioned to be more dependent on the supporting character, Sisu, a magical dragon. Several key scenes show how the progressive representation of female character in the movie is disrupted by scenarios that reinforce certain gender stereotypes. The results show that despite trying to build strong female characters, the film's narrative still inserts elements that limit women's independence. This research is expected to be a reference for the analysis of women's representation in popular media and expand the discussion on gender equality.
