Abstract

Penelitian ini meneliti bagaimana guru dan siswa memandang fitur “Learn to Pronounce” dari Google sebagai media pembelajaran pronunciation di kelas EFL. Penelitian ini menerapkan Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2 (UTAUT 2) untuk mengeksplorasi perspektif mereka tentang teknologi ini untuk belajar pronunciation. Penelitian ini melibatkan dua guru bahasa Inggris dan empat siswa sekolah menengah kejuruan, untuk mengumpulkan data melalui observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Temuan dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar partisipan memiliki perspektif yang positif terhadap penggunaan fitur “Learn to Pronounce” untuk mempelajari pronunciation. Fitur “Learn to Pronounce” diterima sebagai media yang berguna untuk pembelajaran pronunciation. Para peserta percaya bahwa fitur ini mudah diakses dan memberikan umpan balik untuk mengoreksi pelafalan mereka dan membantu mereka dalam belajar pronunciation. Terlepas dari itu, pemanfaatan fitur “Learn to Pronounce” masih menemui kendala seperti koneksi internet dan sistem pengenalan suara yang tidak optimal. Dengan adanya kendala dalam penelitian ini, saran untuk penelitian selanjutnya pun dipertimbangkan.

English Abstract

This study examined how teachers and students perceive Google's “Learn to Pronounce” feature as a medium for learning pronunciation in EFL classrooms. This study applied the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2 (UTAUT 2) to explore their perspective of this technology for learning pronunciation. The study involved two English teachers and four vocational high school students, to collect the data through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings of the study indicated that most of the participants had a positive perspective of the use of the “Learn to Pronounce” feature for learning pronunciation. The “Learn to Pronounce” feature was accepted as a useful medium for pronunciation learning. The participants believed that this feature is easy to access and provides feedback to correct their pronunciation and assist them in learning pronunciation. Apart from that, the utilization of the “Learn to Pronounce” feature still encountered challenges such as internet connection and nonoptimal system speech recognition. Given the constraints of this study, suggestions for future research were considered.
