English Abstract

This research is aimed to find the portrayal and representation of collective unconscious theory in the self of Penelope by examining Penelope’s character and behaviour in the series Bridgerton season 3. The research problem of this study is how Penelope portrays Carl Jung’s collective unconscious archetypes, persona, shadow, anima/animus, and the self in both her identity as Penelope Featherington and Lady Whistledown. This study employs qualitative descriptive approach to analyse and interpret the research object. The data collection is conducted by watching and note-taking method with a purpose to obtain data and information taken from the series "Bridgerton Season 3”. The researcher also used primary and secondary sources to support the ideas in this study and made a conclusion. Based on the result, the researcher managed to find the representation of archetypes in Penelope: Persona as an awkward, timid and underappreciated girl; Shadow as a cruel, sharp-tongue, intellectual gossiper; Animus for her being logical, practical, self-reliance in solving problems; and The Self in which she eventually embraces all part of herself and manages to reach self-realization in the series Bridgerton Season 3.
