Abstract

President election was one of the big events in Indonesia. It attracts many attentions from Indonesian people itself. To prove their capability as a leader in this country, a debate was made for them to showcase their arguments and vision for this country. All of their arguments become sensation, especially around social media. Not everyone agrees with each argument thrown by each candidate. People in virtual space or what we called netizens produced dozens of comments. Thus, leads to the existence of Virtual Linguistic Landscape and multilingualis in the comment section. Much research has been done by various researchers in this field. Especially, linguistic landscape. However, there are differences between Virtual Linguistic Landscape and Linguistic Landscape that played a major role in producing language used inside it. In virtual space like comments section, netizens tend to use more than one language (Multilingual) in expressing their comments. Leading to the existence of code-mixing inside the virtual space. This research will focus on the code-mixing that was found on Virtual Linguistic Landscapes of YouTube and X comments section. This research will analyze the paettern of codemixing and the frequency of each language before comparing the YouTube and X data. The theory used in this research is the theory of Hoffman (1991) the reasons for code-mixing. The researcher used qualitative approach of document analysis and found 5 reasons for code-mixing. From the data collected, the researcher found the pattern of code-mixing used as well as the differences between the data of each platform. The researcher also concludes some differences between YouTube and X as a platform containing code-mixing inside their VLL.

English Abstract

Pemilihan presiden merupakan salah satu peristiwa besar di Indonesia yang menarik banyak perhatian dari masyarakat. Untuk membuktikan kemampuan mereka sebagai pemimpin negara, diadakan debat bagi para kandidat untuk memaparkan argumen dan visi mereka. Semua argumen tersebut menjadi sensasi, terutama di media sosial. Tidak semua orang setuju dengan setiap argumen yang dilontarkan oleh masing-masing kandidat. Masyarakat di dunia maya, atau yang disebut netizen, menghasilkan puluhan komentar yang memunculkan fenomena Lanskap Linguistik Virtual (VLL) dan multilingualisme di kolom komentar. Banyak penelitian telah dilakukan oleh berbagai peneliti di bidang ini, terutama terkait lanskap linguistik. Namun, terdapat perbedaan antara Lanskap Linguistik Virtual dan Lanskap Linguistik tradisional yang memainkan peran besar dalam penggunaan bahasa di dalamnya. Di ruang virtual seperti kolom komentar, netizen cenderung menggunakan lebih dari satu bahasa (multilingual) dalam mengekspresikan komentar mereka, yang mengarah pada keberadaan campur kode (code-mixing) di ruang virtual tersebut. Penelitian ini akan fokus pada campur kode yang ditemukan di Lanskap Linguistik Virtual kolom komentar YouTube dan X (sebelumnya dikenal sebagai Twitter). Penelitian ini akan menganalisis pola campur kode dan frekuensi penggunaan setiap bahasa sebelum membandingkan data dari YouTube dan X. Teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teori Hoffman (1991) mengenai alasan-alasan campur kode. Peneliti menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif berupa analisis dokumen dan menemukan lima alasan campur kode. Dari data yang dikumpulkan, peneliti menemukan pola campur kode yang digunakan serta perbedaan antara data dari setiap platform. Peneliti juga menyimpulkan beberapa perbedaan antara YouTube dan X sebagai platform yang mengandung campur kode di dalam VLL mereka.
