Abstract
Fokus skripsi ini akan berpusat pada penggunaan sensor diri oleh para komika yang tampil dalam segmen YouTube Somasi. Penelitian ini akan menjelaskan apa saja yang dapat dikategorikan sebagai sensor diri dan apa saja faktor, pertimbangan, dan motivasi para komedian melakukan sensor diri dalam penampilannya. Skripsi ini menggunakan teori kajian budaya oleh Williams, teori kajian media oleh Laughey dan teori reaktansi psikologis oleh Brehm. Somasi adalah sebuah pertunjukan komedi tunggal yang diunggah di platform YouTube pada kanal Daddy Corbuzier. Komedian yang tampil di Somasi diharuskan membawakan materi yang dianggap sensitif. Karena membawakan tema-tema yang sensitif, para komedian yang tampil sering kali melakukan sensor diri dalam menyampaikan materi. Sensor diri adalah tindakan dimana informasi atau opini disampaikan secara samar-samar. Hal ini dilakukan untuk mengurangi kemungkinan komedian menyinggung penonton. Dengan menggunakan teori kajian budaya, komedi di Indonesia memiliki dinamika yang erat dengan sensor diri. Beberapa faktor yang memotivasi para komedian di Somasi untuk berani membawakan materi yang sensitif adalah reaksi atau komentar dari penonton yang mendukung para komedian dan juga pembawa acara segmen Somasi, Daddy Corbuzier, yang akan membantu para komedian apabila mereka mendapat masalah. Hal ini dijelaskan dengan menggunakan teori reaktansi yang menjelaskan tentang apa yang dilakukan seseorang jika kebebasan berekspresi dibatasi oleh aturan dan norma sosial, yang mana hal ini sering terjadi di dalam stand-up comedy
English Abstract
The focus of this thesis will center on the use of self-censorship by comedians who appear in the Somasi YouTube segment. This research will explain what can be categorized as self-censorship and what are the factors, considerations and motivations for comedians to use self-censorship in their performances. This thesis uses cultural studies theory by Williams, media studies by Laughey and psychological reactance theory by Brehm. Somasi is a stand-up comedy performance uploaded on the YouTube platform on Daddy Corbuzier's channel. Comedians who perform in Somasi are required to perform jokes that are considered sensitive. Because they present sensitive themes, comedians who perform often use self-censorship in delivering jokes. Self-censorship is an act where information or opinions are conveyed in a vague manner. This is done to reduce the possibility of the comedians offending the audience. Using cultural studies theory, comedy in Indonesia has a close dynamic with self-censorship. Some of the factors that motivate the comedians in Somasi to dare to perform sensitive jokes are the reactions or comments from the audience who support the comedians and also the host of the Somasi segment, Daddy Corbuzier, who will help the comedians if they get into trouble. This is explained using reactance theory which explains what a person does if their freedom of expression is limited by rules and social norms, which is often happens in stand-up comedy.
