Abstract
English Abstract
Technological advancements demand a paradigm shift in education, including the necessity of 21st-century skills such as computational thinking skills. Computational thinking skills emphasize higher-order thinking skills (HOTS), which are essential for addressing challenges in the technological era. However, school education, particularly in science subjects, has yet to adequately focus on developing these skills. This study aims to analyze the effect of the Problem-based Learning (PBL) method assisted by GitHub and ChatGPT on students' learning outcomes and computational thinking skills. The research was conducted at SMKN 5 Kota malang and adopts a weak experimental design in the form of a static group pre-test and post-test design. The sample consists of two groups: the experimental class (XI PPLG 1) and the control class (XI PPLG 3), each comprising 21 students. The results indicate that the post-test significance values for cognitive learning outcomes between the control and experimental groups are 0.299 (H₀ accepted), while psychomotor learning outcomes scored 0.079 (H₀ accepted), and computational thinking skills scored 0.025 (H₀ rejected). Based on the MannWhitney test and Cohen’s d effect size, the implementation of PBL assisted by GitHub and ChatGPT shows no significant effect on cognitive and psychomotor learning outcomes but demonstrates a moderate effect on the development of students' computational thinking skills. This study recommends applying a similar approach to other subjects by simplifying the scope of the materials provided. Such simplification aims to help students focus on understanding fundamental concepts relevant to the learning process, enabling them to concentrate on the core problems without being overwhelmed by excessive material complexity.
