Abstract
English Abstract
Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are traumatic events occurring within the first 18 years of life that can have negative impacts, such as increasing the risk of suicide in adolescents. This study aims to determine the relationship between Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and the risk of suicide in high school adolescents. This research uses a correlational analytical design using a cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling, involving a total of 270 respondents. The instrument used to measure Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) was the World Health Organization Adverse Childhood Experiences International Questionnaire (WHO ACE-IQ), while the instrument to measure suicide risk was The Suicidal Ideation Scale (SIS). The results showed that the majority of participants experienced exposure to ≥4 types of ACEs, reported by 137 students (50.7%). Emotional neglect was the most commonly experienced type of ACE, reported by 250 students (26%), and the majority of students are not at risk of suicide, as many as 240 students (88.9%). The Spearman’s rank correlation test between ACEs and suicide risk yielded a pvalue of 0.000 <0.05, indicating a significant positive correlation and with a correlation coefficient (r) of 0.447 demonstrating a moderate relationship. Based on the research result, it can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and suicide risk among adolescents at SMAN 1 Malang. Therefore, it is recommended that nurses enhance education for parents and the community regarding the impact of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) on mental health to help prevent suicide risk
