Abstract
English Abstract
Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by persistent hyperglycemia, possibly caused by impaired insulin secretion, resistance to peripheral insulin action, or both. People with diabetes mellitus not only experience physical but psychological responses or changes. Psychological changes can arise in a negative direction such as anxiety, anger, helplessness, stress to depression because the elderly with diabetes mellitus tend to feel sad and have no appetite until the body condition becomes weak and less interested in doing anything. This will make the physical resilience of the elderly decrease, so there is a need for social participation for the elderly to remain enthusiastic about improving their physical resilience. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between social participation and physical resilience of the elderly with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The research method used is correlational analysis and uses an approach cross sectional. The instrument used is a questionnaire Australian Community Participation Questionnaire (ACPQ) and The Physical Resilience Instrument for Older Adults (PRIFOR) which was distributed to 87 respondents in the samples. The sampling technique used is non-probability sampling with the purposive sampling method. Correlation test results Spearmen Rank were obtained p-value 0.000 with a correlation coefficient of 0.451. This research found that 58 respondents had high social participation and 80 respondents had high physical resilience. So it can be concluded that there is a relationship between social participation and the physical resilience of the elderly with type 2 diabetes in the Puskesmas Dau Working Area. The higher the level of social participation that the elderly follow, the higher the physical resilience of the elderly. The results of this study are expected to be able to maintain social participation and physical resilience of the elderly.
