Abstract
Siswa harus menguasai keterampilan berbahasa Inggris, terutama keterampilan berbicara, untuk memahami materi pembelajaran dan memiliki kemampuan yang mahir dalam berbahasa Inggris tidak hanya di dalam kelas tetapi juga di luar jam pelajaran. English Club, salah satu kegiatan ekstrakurikuler di sekolah, berfokus pada peningkatan kemampuan berbicara dengan melakukan berbagai kegiatan di setiap pertemuannya. English Club ada di sekolah pendidikan formal maupun non formal, seperti homeschooling. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui persepsi guru dan siswa homeschooling terhadap kegiatan English Club dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif, dengan studi kasus sebagai desain penelitian. Peneliti menggunakan wawancara semi-terstruktur untuk mengumpulkan data. Penelitian ini melibatkan guru English Club, dua siswa berprestasi, dan dua siswa berprestasi rendah di SMA Homeschooling Kak Seto di South Tangerang, Indonesia. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa guru dan siswa memiliki persepsi yang positif terhadap kegiatan English Club dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara. Guru English Club memandang bahwa kegiatan-kegiatan di English Club bermanfaat untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbahasa dan berbicara siswa. Dari sudut pandang siswa, mereka menganggap kegiatan di English Club bermanfaat untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara mereka. Oleh karena itu, kegiatan-kegiatan di English Club dapat menjadi cara alternatif bagi guru dan siswa untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara mereka di luar jam pelajaran
English Abstract
Students must master English skills, especially speaking skills, to grasp the learning material and have a proficient ability in English not only in class but also outside the classroom hours. English Club, one of the extracurricular activities at school, focuses on enhancing speaking skills by engaging in various activities during each meeting. English Club exists in both formal and non-formal education schools, such as homeschooling. Therefore, this study aimed to find out homeschooling teacher's and students' perception of the English Club activities in enhancing speaking skills. This study used a qualitative approach, with a case study as the research design. The researcher used semi-structured interviews to collect data. This research involved the English Club teacher, two high-achieving students, and two lowachieving students at SMA Homeschooling Kak Seto in South Tangerang, Indonesia. The results of this study show that the teacher and the students have a positive perception of the English Club activities in enhancing speaking skills. The English Club teacher perceives that the activities in the English Club are beneficial to enhancing students' language and speaking performance. From the students' perspective, they perceive the activities in the English Club as beneficial for enhancing their speaking skills. Therefore, the activities in the English Club can be an alternative way for both teachers and students to enhance their speaking skills outside the classroom hours.
