Abstract

Penelitian ini menyelidiki representasi perempuan dalam media modern, dengan fokus pada distorsi yang sering terjadi dalam representasi perempuan dalam budaya kontemporer, serta menganalisis representasi karakter perempuan dalam film, yang menyoroti distorsi yang terjadi pada representasi perempuan, di mana perempuan sering direduksi menjadi objek dan didehumanisasi, tidak hanya dari segi fisik tetapi juga dalam bentuk konsep stereotip perempuan. Studi ini berfokus pada posisi subjek karakter Summer Finn, yang sering direpresentasikan sebagai stereotip Manic Pixie Dream Girl (MPDG). Dengan menggunakan metode analisis wacana kritis model Norman Fairclough, penelitian ini mengeksplorasi bagaimana karakteristik Manic Pixie Dream Girl tercermin dalam diri Summer Finn dan dampaknya pada pemahaman kita tentang peran perempuan dalam narasi film. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pemahaman yang lebih mendalam tentang bagaimana stereotip gender tertentu, khususnya dalam konteks karakter Manic Pixie Dream Girl, memengaruhi persepsi audiens terhadap perempuan dalam media. Hasil penelitian ini dapat mencakup pemahaman yang lebih mendalam tentang stereotip gender, representasi perempuan dalam film, dan pentingnya menciptakan karakter perempuan yang lebih kompleks, realistis, dan representatif. Penelitian ini juga dapat menjadi dasar untuk diskusi lebih lanjut tentang bagaimana citra perempuan dikonstruksi dan dipresentasikan dalam media, serta bagaimana hal ini dapat memengaruhi pemahaman kita tentang gender dan peran perempuan dalam masyarakat.

English Abstract

This research investigates the representation of women in modern media, focusing on the distortions that often occur in the representation of women in contemporary culture, as well as analyzing the representation of female characters in films, highlighting the distortions that occur in the representation of women, where women are often reduced to objects and dehumanized not only in terms of physical aspects but also in the form of stereotypical concepts of women. The study focuses on the subject position of Summer Finn, who is often represented as a stereotypical Manic Pixie Dream Girl (MPDG). Using the critical discourse analysis method of Norman Fairclough's model, this study explores how the characteristics of the Manic Pixie Dream Girl are reflected in Summer Finn and its impact on our understanding of the role of women in film narratives. This research aims to provide a deeper understanding of how specific gender stereotypes, particularly in the context of the Manic Pixie Dream Girl character, influence audience perceptions of women in media. The results of this research may include a deeper understanding of gender stereotypes, the representation of women in films, and the importance of creating female characters that are more complex, realistic, and representative. This research can also provide a foundation for further discussion on how female images are constructed and presented in media, and how this can affect our understanding of gender and the role of women in society.
