Abstract
Seiring meningkatnya pertumbuhan penduduk di Indonesia setiap tahunnya, kebutuhan manusia akan energi juga ikut meningkat, khususnya bidang mekanisasi agrikultur dan mesin industri. Mesin diesel digunakan berbagai macam tujuan seperti mesin truk, pembangkit listrik, peralatan berat, dan mekanisasi industri lainnya. Dengan laju kebutuhan energi lebih tinggi dari ketersediaan energi, maka memicu dikembangkannya bahan bakar energi alternatif yang mempertahankan kinerja motor diesel namun konsumsi bahan bakar yang lebih irit. Adapun tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengetahui bagaimana pengaruh variasi timing injection dan penambahan etanol pada solar terhadap kinerja motor. Sehingga didapatkan kinerja motor terbaik, dengan pengaturan timing injection dan penambahan kadar etanol yang tepat. Pada pengujian ini, penambahan etanol dengan kadar volume 0%, 7.5%, 10% dan 15% digunakan sebagai variabel bebas. Selain itu, variabel bebas yang digunakan untuk tiap variasi penambahan etanol menggunakan variasi timing injection mulai advance 2o, standard, retarded 2o dan retarded 4o. English Abstract
Bioethanol is one of renewable and oxygenated bio-based resource with the potential to improve the performance of diesel. Meanwhile, diesel engines were used in a wide variety of purposes. Diesel consumption is responsible for serious air pollution and fossil fuel scarcity. These led to the development of ethanol, in order to reduce energy costs. The aim of this study is to find the optimum injection times that gives better performance for the addition of ethanol, with 0%, 7.5%, 10% and 15% (by vol.). The experiment was conducted by variates injection times using advanced 2o, standard, retarded 2o and retarded 4o for each addition of ethanol. The performance of diesel engine evaluated in 1,800-3,200 rpm with constant engine loads. Torque and Power decreased with the increase of ethanol addition. Meanwhile, better effective thermal efficiency was obtained by diesel-ethanol fuel with retarded injection timing setting compared to diesel fuel injection timing standard. Injection timing and addition of ethanol in diesel fuel, did not give significant influence on SFCe. However, the best performance was obtained due the proper setting of the injection timing was set. Theoretical aspects of diesel engine combustion combined with the widely differing physical and chemical properties of the ethanol against those for the diesel fuel, are used to aid the correct interpretation of the observed engine behavior.
