Abstract
Lagu adalah media umum yang biasa digunakan untuk mengekspresikan perasaan terhadap suatu hal. Untuk memahami makna dalam lagu secara lebih dalam, penulis menggunakan teori mythology oleh Roland Barthes untuk membantunya memperoleh hasil dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk mengungkap identitas remaja terhadap tindak kekerasan dan pelecehan yang digambarkan dalam tiga lagu yang dikarang oleh Aerosmtih. Tiga lagu yang digunakan berjudul Janie’s Got a Gun, Uncle Salty, dan Legendary Child. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif untuk menyajikan penjelasan secara jelas terhadap isu yang dibahas. Penelitian ini ditulis dengan mengartikan ketiga lirik dari lagu yang terpilih dengan mengaplikasikan teori mythology untuk menentukan arti yang lebih dalam dan untuk mengungkap identitas remaja dari lyric tersebut. Penelitian ini mengungkapkan bahwa dalam Janie’s Got a Gun, identas remaja adalah sebagai korban dan sebagai pembunuh. Dalam Uncle Salty, identitas remaja adalah sebagai anak terlantar. Sedankan dalam Legendary Child, identitas remaja adalah sebagai pengguna narkoba.
English Abstract
Song is the common media that is used to express a feeling to a certain condition. In order to understand the deeper meaning of the song, the writer used mythology theory by Roland Barthes to help him achieve the objective of this study which is to reveal the young adults’ identity toward the act of violence and abuse portrayed in the three songs composed by Aerosmith. The three songs that were used are entitled Janie’s Got a Gun, Uncle Salty, and Legendary Child. This study uses qualitative approach to provide clear explanation toward the issue that were discussed. This study conducted by decoding the three lyrics of the chosen songs with applying the mythology theory to determine a deeper meaning and to reveal the young adults’ identity from the lyrics. This study reveals that in Janie’s Got a Gun, the teenager’s identities are as a victim and a murderer. In Uncle Salty, the teenager’s identity is as an abandoned child. While in Legendary Child, the teenager’s identity is as a drug addict.
