Abstract

English Abstract

f waste generated. In Malang Regency, the annual waste generation in 2023 reached 352,937 tons per year. The high amount of waste in Malang Regency has led to the closure of the Tlekung landfill in Batu City, East Java. Tegalweru Village, located in Dau District, Malang Regency, is one of the areas that transported its waste to the Tlekung landfill. This situation forced Tegalweru Village to manage its waste independently through a waste processing facility (TPS). This TPS is planned to become a 3R TPS, but in its existing condition, it does not yet have proper waste management. This study conducted an analysis of the waste generation and composition in Tegalweru Village, determined the waste material flow, and assessed the potential for waste reduction at the planned 3R TPS in Tegalweru Village. The waste reduction potential at the Tegalweru 3R TPS was determined using several analyses, one of which is material flow analysis. The material flow analysis was structured by tracing the waste material flow and calculating the waste quantity from the point of generation to its end, also identifying the potential for waste reduction during the process. The results of this study showed that the total waste generation in Tegalweru Village was 1507.35 kg/day. The waste generation in Tegalweru Village reached 0.42 kg/person/day with a volume of 2.91 L/person/day, with a waste composition of 56.43% organic waste, 16.25% plastic waste, 16.67% paper, 0.79% wood, 1.14% rubber, 1.5% fabric, 1.58% cans, 0.44% glass, and 5.18% other waste. The potential waste reduction was 1042.07 kg/day (69.1%), with 465.28 kg/day (30.9%) remaining as residue. Organic waste can be reduced by converting it into compost or ecoenzyme, while inorganic waste with economic value can be sold to collectors. The waste material flow at the Tegalweru TPS was analyzed based on existing and ideal conditions. Under ideal conditions, the waste material flow was analyzed after the 3R TPS plan was implemented, allowing for waste sorting and processing. By understanding the waste reduction potential, it is hoped that the amount of residue transported to the landfill can be reduced.
