Abstract
Novel romantis menjadi genre yang banyak diminati oleh pembaca. Namun, konsumsi novel romantis secara berkala dapat menyebabkan pembaca memiliki keyakinan tertentu terkait hubungan romantis atau disebut dengan romantic beliefs. Parasocial relationships menjadi salah satu faktor yang dapat mempengaruhi hal tersebut. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui korelasi antara parasocial relationships dan romantic beliefs pada pembaca novel romantis. Desain penelitian yang digunakan merupakan penelitian kuantitatif korelasional dengan responden warga negara Indonesia yang membaca novel romantis. Proses pengambilan data dilakukan secara daring menggunakan google form. Penelitian ini melibatkan 110 responden (90% perempuan, 10% laki-laki) yang dipilih melalui teknik purposive sampling. Partisipan memiliki rentang usia 18-40 tahun (M= 22.37; SD= 4.004). Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan adalah Parasocial Relationships with Characters (PSR-C) dan Romantic Beliefs Scale (RBS). Data penelitian dianalisis menggunakan teknik Pearson Product Moment. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hubungan positif antara parasocial relationships dengan romantic beliefs pada pembaca novel romantis. Implikasi penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan kesadaran bagi pembaca bahwa novel romantis hanya fiksi yang belum tentu dapat terjadi di dunia nyata
English Abstract
Romance novels are a genre that many readers are interested in. However, regular consumption of romance novels can cause readers to have certain beliefs regarding romantic relationships or what are called romantic beliefs. Parasocial relationships are one factor that can influence that. The purpose of this study is to determine the correlation between parasocial relationships and romantic beliefs in romance novel readers. The research design used is quantitative correlational research with Indonesian citizen respondents who read romance novels. The data collection process is carried out online using google form. This research involved 110 respondents (90% women, 10% men) selected through purposive sampling technique. Participants ranged in age from 18-40 years (M= 22.37; SD= 4.004). The research instruments used were Parasocial Relationships with Characters (PSR-C) and Romantic Beliefs Scale (RBS). Research data is explained using the Pearson Product Moment method. The research results show that there is a positive correlation between parasocial relationships and romantic beliefs in romance novel readers. It is hoped that the implications of this study will provide awareness to readers that romance novels are only fiction and may not necessarily happen in the real world.
