Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh transactional leadership terhadap employee performance melalui mediasi job satisfaction, job stress, dan trust. Penelitian ini menggunakan jenis penelitian eksplanatori dengan pendekatan kuantitatif. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah karyawan perusahaan yang bergerak dibidang galangan kapal di kota Surabaya yaitu PT. Dok dan Perkapalan Surabaya (Persero). Penelitian menggunakan sampling jenuh. Penelitian ini memiliki 69 responden. Data dikumpulkan melalui survei dan dokumentasi, dan instrumen diuji menggunakan skala likert. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan Structural Equation Model Partial Least Squares (SEMPLS). Temuan penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa transactional leadership dapat meningkatkan employee performance. Lebih lanjut, transactional leadership dapat meningkatkan job satisfaction dan trust sekaligus mengurangi job stress. Employee performance dapat ditingkatkan dengan mengatasi masalah job satisfaction. Employee performance berkorelasi positif dengan job satisfaction. Namun, job stress tidak berpengaruh signifikan terhadap employee performance. Sedangkan trust dapat meningkatkan employee performance. Job satisfaction dapat memediasi pengaruh transactional leadership terhadap employee performance, sedangkan job stress tidak. Trust mempunyai kemampuan memediasi pengaruh transactional leadership terhadap employee performance. Temuan penelitian ini memberi saran kepada PT. Dok dan Perkapalan Surabaya (Persero) untuk mempertahankan dan meningkatkan gaya kepemimpinan transaksional pemimpin dalam mengelola berbagai sumber daya yang ada di perusahaan guna membina hubungan positif antara karyawan dengan perusahaan sehingga kinerja karyawan dapat meningkat secara maksimal.

English Abstract

The objective of this quantitative explanatory research is to identify the effects of transactional leadership on employee performance as mediated by job satisfaction, job stress, and trust. The population is the employees of a company engaged in shipbuilding in Surabaya, PT. Dok dan Perkapalan Surabaya (Persero). Using saturated sampling, all 69 population members were involved as the research respondents. The data was harvested via Likert-scaled questionnaires and was analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling – Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). This research finds that transactional leadership can improve employee performance, that transactional leadership increases job satisfaction and trust and reduces job stress at once, and that employee performance can be improved by overcoming job satisfaction problems. Furthermore, employee performance is positively correlated with job satisfaction, but job stress has no significant effect on employee performance. Then, as trust can improve employee performance, job satisfaction can mediate the influence of transactional leadership on employee performance. Finally, as job stress has no mediation effects, trust mediates the influence of transactional leadership on employee performance. These findings suggest PT. Dok dan Perkapalan Surabaya (Persero) to maintain and improve its style of transactional leadership for managing various resources in the company in order to foster the positive relationship with its employees so that employee performance can be maximized.
