Abstract
Kedudukan perempuan pada saat ini perlahan-lahan bergerak menuju kondisi yang egaliter, terutama dalam ranah dinamika gender, dimana perempuan dapat mengecap kesempatan yang sama untuk berpartisipasi dan bekerja di ranah publik. Bombshell (2019) sebuah film semi-dokumenter atas kontroversi dan skandal pelecehan seksual yang dilakukan oleh FOX terhadap tenaga kerja perempuannya merepresentasikan sebaliknya, bahwasanya meskipun telah ada kemajuan menuju kesetaraan gender di arena publik, ketidakadilan yang mengakar masih tetap ada, menjerat perempuan dalam struktur dominasi hegemonik untuk memastikan keberlangsungan karier mereka. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menunjukkan kondisi powerlessness para pekerja perempuan yang direpresentasikan lewat film Bombshell. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan melakukan analisis terhadap adegan pada film menggunakan 3 level pengkodean televisi semiotika John Fiske dan Standpoint Theory. Melalui penelitian ini kemudian masih ditemukan representasi bentuk-bentuk powerlessness perempuan yang ditandai dengan adanya normalisasi pelecehan dan komodifikasi tubuh, penerimaan kondisi quid pro quo harassment demi jenjang karir, dan kebungkaman dalam kondisi rentan yang disebabkan oleh ketergantungan ekonomi, ketidaktanggungjawaban perusahaan, dan hilangnya kontrol diri.
English Abstract
The stance of women today is progressively moving towards more egalitarian conditions, especially in gender dynamics, where women can feel equal opportunities to participate and work in the public sphere. In spite of this, “Bombshell” (2019), a semi-documentary film that depicts the controversy and scandal of sexual harassment committed by FOX against its female workers, presents a contrasting narrative. The movie presents a contrasting narrative. Despite progress towards gender equality in the public arena, deeprooted inequalities still persist, keeping women trapped in hegemonic structures of domination to ensure the perpetuation of their careers. This research aims to illustrate the conditions of powerlessness experienced by female workers as depicted in the movie “Bombshell”. Using a qualitative research approach, this study analyzes the scenes in the film using John Fiske's three levels of television coding semiotics and Viewpoint Theory. Through this research, various forms of women's powerlessness are identified, characterized by the normalization of harassment and commodification of women's bodies, acceptance of quid pro quo harassment for career advancement, and silence in vulnerable situations caused by economic dependence, corporate irresponsibility, and loss of self-control.
