English Abstract
Ceiba pentandra also known as “Kapuk Randu” and Basela rubra also known as “Gendola” are commonly used as a traditional medicine in Indonesia to treat several ailments due to the potential antioxidant contains in the leaves. These antioxidants contribute to counteract the free radicals that caused the diseases such as cells demage, which implicated in diabetes. In this research, Ceiba pentandra and Basella rubra leaves powder macerated using dichloromethane, methanol, and water. The benefits of using different solvents during the extraction process is to ensure the maximum yield of the bioactive compounds in different polarities. Subsequently, the phytochemical screening conducted to determine the flavonoids, phenolics, terpenoids, alkaloids, steroids, anthraquinone, tanin, and saponin. The antioxidant activity also evaluated using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl scavenging (DPPH) and Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power (FRAP) assays. Furthermore, the alpha-glucosidase inhibitory effect also performed to evaluate the antidiabetic potential. From the tests, it was obtained that methanol extract of Ceiba pentandra was potential (53.58 ± 0.47 ug/mg AAE , IC50 27.71 ± 4.56, and IC50 10.78 ± 0.51) on FRAP, DPPH, and alpha glucosidase inhibitory effect assays, respectively. Q-TOF LCMS analysis revealed that the methanol extract of Ceiba pentandra contained some bioactive compounds such as 4-Methylaminobutyrate, Isoamyl nitrite, L-Leucine, Torosaflavone B 3'-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside, 11-hydroperoxy-12,13- epoxy-9-octadecenoic acid, Xestoaminol C, C16 Sphinganine, Phytosphingosine, and C17 Sphinganine
