Abstract
Skripsi ini bertujuan untuk memberikan analisis rinci mengenai penggunaan idiom dalam film dan berpendapat bahwa menonton film dapat membiasakan penonton dengan ungkapan idiom dan maknanya. Ekspresi idiomatik adalah kalimat yang mengandung ungkapan/ ekspresi yang memiliki arti khusus yang tidak bisa di terjemahkan secara langsung, kata per kata, bahkan keseluruhan kalimat. Ekspresi idiomatik adalah kombinasi kata pada sebuah kalimat yang mana makna nya sulit untuk di mengerti. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis tipe dan makna beberapa ungkapan yang ada film Charlie’s Angels (2019). Menggunakan teori O’Dell and McCharthy, penelitian ini berdasarkan metode kualitatif deskriptif untuk menganalisis beberapa cuplikan yang mengandung ekspresi idiomatik di film Charlie’s Angels (2019). Ekspresi idiomatik pada umumnya ditemukan di film karena biasanya penutur asli mengekspresikan sesuatu dengan cara yang sulit. Terdapat lima puluh data yang ditemukan di film Charlie’s Angels (2019) berdasarkan teori ekpresi idiomatic oleh O”dell dan McChathy’s (2010), terdiri dari 14 proverb, 11 cliché, dan 25 fixed statements. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa fixed statement adalah ekspresi idiomatik yang paling sering muncul di film Charlie’s Angel. Studi ini akan mengajarkan pembaca untuk lebih memahami tentang tipe dan makna dari ungkapan, terutama di film action. Terakhir, peneliti berharap agar peneliti berikutnya bisa menggali lebih dalam tentang ungkapan lebih spesifik dalam aspek dan pandangan yang baru.
English Abstract
This thesis aims to provide a detailed analysis of the use of idioms in movies and argues that watching movies can familiarize the audience with idiomatic expressions and their meanings. An idiomatic expression is a sentence that contains idioms. It has a special meaning that cannot be translated, word by word, or even the whole sentence. The combination of words contained in the sentence makes the meaning hard to understand. This study aims to analyze the types of idioms and the meanings used in Charlie’s Angels (2019) Movie. Using O’Dell and McCharthy’s theory, this research used descriptive qualitative methodology to analyze some scenes containing idiomatic expressions in the Charlie’s Angels (2019) Movie. The idiomatic expression is normally found in movies because sometimes native speakers express something difficult. There are 50 data found in Charlie’s Angel (2019) based on O’Dell and McCarthy’s (2010) type of idiomatic expression, consisting of 14 proverbs, 11 cliché, and 25 fixed statements. It can be concluded that a fixed statement is the most idiomatic expression that appears in Charlie’s Angel’s movie. This study guides the reader to understand more about the type and the meaning of idioms, especially in action movies. In the end, the researcher wishes for future researchers to dig into idioms specifically in a new aspect and point of view
