Nurcahyo, Ridwan Firmansyah and Astrida Fitri Nuryani, STP.,M.,Si (2024) nalisis Wacana Kritis Isu Disabilitas Pada Rubrik Difabel Aksesibilitas Media Online Tempo.co Edisi Juli – September 2023. Sarjana thesis, Universitas Brawijaya.
Abstract
English Abstract
Disability issues should be a common concern, but in reality, they are rarely discussed in depth in the public sphere. The media often only highlights the achievements, crimes or compassion of people with disabilities, without giving adequate attention to their needs. Many media outlets do not have a dedicated section for disability topics, so related information is often hidden. Unlike other media, Tempo.co has a special "Difabel" section that covers Accessibility, Inclusivity, and Rehabilitation. This research aims to analyze how disability issues are framed in the Accessibility section of the Difabel rubric from the July to September 2023 edition, using Norman Fairclough's Three Dimensions of Critical Discourse Analysis, considering that accessibility for people with disabilities is still uneven. The results showed that although the five news articles analyzed were educative and informative, there were still significant shortcomings. The news texts contain biases that unconsciously create inequality for people with disabilities. Intertextuality analysis shows the representation of people with disabilities by the media, and illustrates the inequalities and barriers they face in accessing facilities and services. Despite this, Tempo.co consistently strives to educate readers about accessibility for people with disabilities, raise public awareness, and provide education about facilities, policies, and the challenges they face. Shortcomings in news discourse need to be continuously corrected to create a more inclusive understanding and support a more equitable social transformation
