Abstract
Kurangnya minat baca menyebabkan siswa memiliki kemampuan membaca yang rendah. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi korelasi antara minat baca siswa dan kemampuan membaca siswa di antara 95 siswa kelas sepuluh di salah satu sekolah negeri di Kabupaten Malang. Dengan menggunakan desain penelitian korelasional, penelitian ini menggunakan kuesioner untuk mengukur minat baca siswa dan tes pilihan ganda untuk menilai kemampuan membaca mereka. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa hasil kuesioner menunjukkan bahwa dimensi 4 item nomor 19 memiliki persentase responden tertinggi yaitu 96,8%, sedangkan dimensi 4 item nomor 20 memiliki persentase responden terendah yaitu 72,6%. Sementara itu, hasil tes menunjukkan nilai rata-rata 85. Selain itu, hasil penelitian ini menemukan korelasi positif yang signifikan antara minat baca siswa dengan kemampuan membaca mereka (nilai r-value > r-tabel = 0,302 > 0,201). Meskipun korelasi tersebut signifikan, namun dapat dikategorikan sebagai korelasi rendah yang mengindikasikan bahwa korelasi tersebut tidak terlalu kuat. Hal ini terjadi karena disebabkan oleh salah satu variabel yang lemah, yaitu dari hasil tes kemampuan membaca yang menunjukkan nilai terendah siswa yaitu 42 dan beberapa siswa memiliki nilai di bawah kriteria ketuntasan belajar. Dari hasil penelitian ini, disarankan agar peneliti selanjutnya menggunakan metode penelitian lain seperti melakukan penelitian kualitatif dengan menggabungkan penelitian kuantitatif atau metode campuran dengan wawancara mendalam yang dapat memberikan gambaran yang lebih luas mengenai bagaimana minat baca mempengaruhi kemampuan membaca dan faktor-faktor lain yang berperan.
English Abstract
The lack of interest in reading causes students to have low reading ability. Therefore, this research aims to explore the correlation between students' reading interest and their reading ability among 95 tenth graders in one of the public school in Malang Regency. Employing a correlational research design, the study utilized a questionnaire to gauge students' reading interest and multiple-choice tests to assess their reading ability. The findings revealed that the questionnaire results showed that dimension 4 item number 19 had the highest percentage of respondents at 96.8%, while dimension 4 item number 20 had the lowest percentage of respondents at 72.6%. Meanwhile, the test results show an average score of 85. Additionally, the results of this study found a significant positive correlation between students' reading interest and their reading ability (r-value > r-table = 0.302 > 0.201). Although the correlation is significant, it can be categorized as a low correlation which indicates that the correlation is not very strong. This happens because it is caused by one of the weak variables, which is from the reading ability test results which show the lowest student score of 42 and several students have scores below the learning completeness criteria. From the results of this research, it is suggested that future researchers use other research methods such as conducting qualitative research by combining quantitative research or mixed methods with indepth interviews or focus groups that can provide greater insight into how reading interest affects reading ability and other factors that play a role.
