English Abstract
Many bridal couples use wedding hashtags when uploading their wedding content on social media to collect and share wedding memories. Wedding hashtags have become more interesting because they are formed by combining the names of the groom and bride and words that will form a wedding hashtag that sounds like a sentence or phrase with a beautiful meaning. The creativity in using this language results in the wordplay phenomenon. So, the researcher conducted this research to investigate the types of pun formation in wedding hashtags, the function of wedding hashtags, and explore the reader response about wedding hashtags. The researcher used a qualitative approach with a descriptive result. The data was taken from the wedding hashtags used by Indonesian public figures on Instagram. Wedding hashtags that have been found categorized into the types of puns based on Delabastita's (1996) theory. Then, the function of the wedding hashtag based on a journal by Burikova & Ovchinnikova (2022) and reader response was explored based on Rosenblatt (1995). The wedding hashtags found amounted to 15 data. Homonymy was found in six data, homophony with seven data, also homography and paronymy with one data each. In the categorization process, each data is also analyzed through wordformation processes, especially shortenings and blends. Furthermore, based on findings, wedding hashtags help couples find their wedding content easier by searching the hashtag on the search bar and wedding hashtags are a means to promote vendors involved in a wedding. The popularity of the wedding hashtag also opens up new job opportunities and builds community creativity. Moreover, based on netizen comments, the researcher found that reader responses regarding wedding hashtags were rare. Some readers included the wedding hashtag in their comments but did not interpret it. Then, the researcher found that comments formed patterns such as congratulating, praising, praying, and comments about the vendor, caption, couple's love story, and curiosity.
