Abstract
roduksi pisang yang sangat melimpah menyebabkan banyaknya limbah batang semu. Serat pelepah pisang berpotensi sebagai bahan penguat komposit yang menjanjikan. Serat tersebut perlu dilakukan perlakuan alkalisasi untuk meningkatkan kekuatan mekanik serat. Serat pelepah pisang kepok diberikan perlakuan perendaman selama 2 jam menggunakan larutan Ca(OH)2. Variasi konsentrasi yang digunakan yaitu 0%, 1%, 3%, 5%, 7%, dan 9%. Setelah perlakuan tersebut, serat dikarakterisasi menggunakan mikroskop optik, uji tarik dan FTIR. Serat setelah perlakuan mengalami sedikit pencoklatan. Diameter serat semakin besar seiring bertambahnya konsentrasi karena adanya rongga. Semakin besar diameternya, kekuatan tarikannya semakin kecil. Besar kekuatan tarik serat sebelum perlakuan yaitu 309,116 MPa. Sedangkan kekuatan tarik serat setelah perlakuan dengan konsentrasi 1% memiliki nilai tertinggi yaitu 197,458 MPa. Kandungan selulosa dengan gugus fungsi C-O-C dan hemiselulosa dengan gugus fungsi C=O mengalami penurunan, dan lignin dengan gugus fungsi C-H mengalami peningkatan. Selain itu, serat berperlakuan larutan Ca(OH)2 teridentifikasi gugus fungsi CaO yang meningkat. Kandungan lignin yang meningkat menyebabkan serat lebih getas. Kekuatan tarik serat setelah perlakuan larutan Ca(OH)2 menurun. Hal ini disebabkan karena adanya rongga pada serat dan sifat Ca(OH)2 dapat menurunkan stabilitas selulosa. Semakin tinggi konsentrasi larutan Ca(OH)2 yang digunakan, maka kekuatan tarikan serat akan semakin menurun. Kandungan selulosa dan hemiselulosa semakin menurun akibat semakin tinggi konsentrasi larutan Ca(OH)2 yang digunakan. Kandungan lignin dan gugus fungsi CaO meningkat akibat semakin tingginya konsentrasi larutan Ca(OH)2 yang digunakan.
English Abstract
The abundant production of bananas results in a large amount of false stem waste. Banana frond fibers have potential as a promising composite reinforcement material. The fibers need to be alkalized to improve the mechanical strength of the fibers. The kepok banana leaf fibers were given a 2-hour soaking treatment using Ca(OH)2 solution. The concentration variations used were 0%, 1%, 3%, 5%, 7%, and 9%. After the treatment, the fibers were characterized using an optical microscope, tensile test and FTIR. The fibers after treatment experienced slight browning. The fiber diameter increased with increasing concentration due to the presence of voids. The larger the diameter, the smaller the tensile strength. The tensile strength of the fiber before treatment was 309.116 MPa. While the tensile strength of the fiber after treatment with 1% concentration has the highest value of 197.458 MPa. The content of cellulose with C-O-C functional groups and hemicellulose with C=O functional groups decreased, and lignin with C-H functional groups increased. In addition, the fibers treated with Ca(OH)2 solution had increased CaO functional groups identified. The increased lignin content causes the fiber to be more brittle. The tensile strength of the fiber after Ca(OH)2 solution treatment decreased. This is due to the presence of voids in the fiber and the nature of Ca(OH)2 can reduce the stability of cellulose. The higher the concentration of Ca(OH)2 solution used, the lower the tensile strength of the fiber. The content of cellulose and hemicellulose decreased due to the higher concentration of Ca(OH)2 solution used. Lignin content and CaO functional groups increased due to the higher concentration of Ca(OH)2 solution used.
