Abstract

English Abstract

Pre-school age children (4-5 years) are starting to be independent, express their desires for food, and show different eating behavior for each individual, therefore they are vulnerable to experiencing problems with nutrition, growth and development. This research aims to determine the relationship between eating behavior and the growth and development of pre-school children in Malang. Where the inclusion criteria are, parents and children aged 4-5 years who attend school, are willing to carry out research. The research design was correlative observational with a cross-sectional approach. The research was conducted on 181 samples, spread across 8 KB/TK in Malang during November 2023 – February 2024. The research instruments used were pre-school age children's eating behavior questionnaires, z-score graphs, and Pre-Developmental Screening Questionnaires (KPSP ). Test the relationship between variables using the Spearman test with a p value <0.05. The results of the study showed that 72.4% of children's eating behavior was quite good, 81.2% BW/U was normal, 87.3% TB/U was normal, 75.7% BW/TB was normal, and 61.9% of children's development was normal. However, the p-value of eating behavior on BW/U growth was 0.445; TB/U 0.880; BB/TB 0.510 where the p value is >0.05. Meanwhile, the p-value of eating behavior on development is 0.166, where the p-value is> 0.05. So it was concluded that there was no relationship between eating behavior and the growth and development of pre-school children in Malang. It is hoped that future researchers will be able to look deeper into the relationship between children's eating behavior and growth and development
